Is 1M max speed limited?

I've read that speed is limited to 250 km/h but today the speedometer was reading 285 km/h ?!? is it possible previous owner removed the limit in some way?

Yes, at least in the U.S., it is limited.

It seems to me that the 1M limiter is either removed/not activated in some markets or it has a higher top speed than advertised 250 km/h. So, maybe yours just came like that from factory too (mine definitely did). I doubt it was the former user unless he applied an engine tune software.

1M has enough natural drag limiter (boxy shape) to keep the real top speed below 280ish km/h anyway

Don't hold me to this, but I think it's supposed to be limited to 148 mph in the U.S., but I know I've seen higher on long tracks.

Wait a minute, so you got one of those very limited edition 1M's where the M button activates the afterburner ?

Yes, the 1M is limited. But not to 250 kph but rather 269 kph (real vehicle aka GPS) speed. Same as an M3 or M5 speed limiter.

I've hit 181mph.* I was Tune+Speed Delimit, FBO, Meth, and E85 mix.
However, I have no GPS to give me the real speed though.

How did you measure that? The us-spec car's MPH speedo only goes to 160 mph while the EU speedo goes to 280 kph. When I have done my various V-max runs in my US spec 135i... the speedo needle stops at 160 mph while my M3 digital speedo will continue to read actual vehicle speed. But its impossible to read that tiny display AND drive at those speeds. I always just go by tach or or GPS mounted on the windshield.

I had a passenger with me doing recording of my runs. He was watching the digital speedometer on the dash.
The U.S. Spec 1Ms have a 180mph tachometer. The needle was past the 180mph mark.
It took a bit of time as there was a slight incline to compete with but we made it past 180mph.
Speed isn't worth bragging rights at the risk of my own or my passenger's life. I wasn't going to attempt to look at the dash while moving in excess of 120mph.
Helmets don't protect the entire body.

1M EU speedo goes to 300 km/h.

Well... the car's speedo reads at at least +4%. And at those speeds its more like +5%.

Do you have your digital speedo coded to read actual vehicle speed or the same buffered valve that your speedo reads. In other words... does your speedo and digital speedo jive(read the same). ?

I have mine(V = kph) coded to read actual vehicle speed. I have a 6MT with stock 18" wheels but with 225/255's. The fastest I have seen is 6,400 rpms in 6th. I have no idea how fast that is exactly... but I think its close to 289kph.

I really wasn't gonna post this... but... here is a video I made back in the fall driving home from Munich to Nürnberg on the A9 Autobahn in a "unrestricted" zone. Its a nice three lane new autobahn with some rolling "hills". One of my fav Autobahn areas. I really wasn't trying to make a banzi run. It was just for fun - since I had my camera with me. And it was too damm hard driving one handed and holding a small camera. So... 274 kph was as fast as I felt comfortable doing.

It was the limiter which stopped you at that point or...?

Sorry, I was thinking of 135i speedos. You are right.

Actually I think both US and EU spec 1M's speedo max out the (almost) the same. 180mph/300kph.

Noop. Just ran out of road and nerves driving with only one hand.
When my car was stock (I have a stage II flash tune only) my car would be limited to 155 mph(250 kph) on the speedo. But my GPS would read/say "only" 240 kph @5,400 rpm's in 6th.

OOOPS! Sorry OZ... I just noticed you were talking about my runs.

Maybe this Spring I will try and record some new runs with a Go Pro taped down to the steering console.

The max I did on mine was 270kmh, It doesn't do more than this because it is limited, but it does 270 very fast and easily so I believe that 300kmh is possible if the car is unlimited.

Dack wins the "large attachments" award! That speed while holding a camera proves massive multitasking skills.
