Would you buy another 135 i???
I test drove a Mini Cooper Roadster S the other day. Considering trading in my 2008 135 i for it.... However, when I looked at the sticker price on the Mini, I was shocked: 37,000.00 , and it wasn't loaded, no Nav. So,yesterday I talked with a BMW rep about the 2013 135i, and if I keep the options down ( no Nav, etc.), and I consider BMWCA, Loyalty and other discounts, the price is not much more than the Mini, equally equipped...
So my choices are: 1) Keep my car and drive into the ground.. 2) Get the roadster ( I really do feel that it is over priced..) 3) Or take advantage of the value in my car, and turn it over for a 2013 135.... The new 135 i might have the N55 engine.... I have Nav on my present car, think it is a waste, and will eliminate it... Do you guys feel the same about the Nav? Would you (have you...) buy another 135i???? |

I like the nav option if only for idrive. I agree the nav itself is fairly useless, but the other options that it provides is nice.

how many miles are on your car and how much did they offer you trade in for the new cars? that would weigh heavily in my decision.

I traded in a 2011 MCS with JCW kit for my 128. There is NO WAY I would buy a Mini over a 128, much less a 135. Keep your 135 or get a new one but avoid the Mini

I say get a 2013 128/135, $37k seems a lot for mini when a 1 series is within reach. I have a 135 with the N55 engine and its a blast to drive. Sometimes I feel it's got too much power since I find myself in 80mph in 3rd gear, I believe a 128 would of been a great fit as well along with the BMW Performance Brakes. Remember these 1 series in a way are the last of a dying breed they don't come with electric steering or auto start/stop.

That 08 Navi really is terrible. I would go for the newer 135i but I would not ditch the iDrive. It was one of the real highlights of the car, IMHO.

I'd say get a new-er 135i ...F you want a new car. I would not buy the iDrive option. I did not order it on my car... and I don't feel I am missing anything.
The only options I would order that I did not is rear PDC and HK sound system. I only ordered; Leather, USB/iPod, heated seats, and full M-sport and metallic paint. And YES, I would buy another 135i.

I would buy a IS if you can swing it. Or wait until the 2 series comes out and see what they look like. I would buy another 135 in a heart beat but Id love to have a 1M, so IF I ever get another 1 series it will be the M

I had an R53 Cooper S. While the R56, and the roadster you mention, go a LONG way towards the "refinement" of a BMW, it's still a purposely DIFFERENT experience. Not worse or better, but different experience for different market, though somehow they get away with similar pricing. I was (and am) a bonafide MINI enthusiast, and I've always said this: you don't buy a MINI because it's the best in its segment or because you get the most for your $; you buy a MINI because you WANT a MINI. Same goes for BMW in a sense, but it seems we of the MINI ilk pay more for less! So, to the OP's question - I can't imagine you'd get out of your 135i and find the Cooper S Roadster to be a suitable replacement, but I've never driven it, so I don't truly know.

I came from an R56 S.. Loved it! Great for what it was. Sadly someone decided to end its life by lane changing into me at 110k on the freeway! I'm now the happy owned of a 2012 135i with the M pack and LOVE IT. I wouldnt go back to the cooper now thats for sure. You'll be drastically dissapointed with the power and FWD. The only two upshots I see are the mileage (mine would creep over 40mpg on the freeway) and the quirkyness of owning and driving a Mini.
I wouldnt ever order nav. I specifically ordered mine without the iDrive. Its cumbersome, distracting and my phone will do all that it does and more for a fraction the cost. Not to mention the nav and idrive will be outdated and unsightly before the warranty is up. |

I'm quite the opposite, I had an R56 S and my '08 135i at the same time and after a week of straight driving the Mini, then getting back behind the wheel of the 1, the 1 felt like a big luxo coupe. The mini driving dynamics is amazing: go-kart like handling, good acceleration (mine was chipped with full dps/catless exhaust) and it was a hoot to drive everywhere.
I'd only consider giving up my 1 for a JCW Mini hatch not convertible.

I've done the switch from a 128i to a R56 Cooper S and this is one of the worst decision I've ever made.
I've always been a MINI enthusiast and I currently drive one but those cars are rattle cages. I've had mine for 6 months and it feels like I had it for 6 years... Now I'm on the hunt for a 2013 135i and while the 2 will probably be a good car, the 135i will become a true icon and a must have car in a couple of years. Like the 2002tii before it the 135i will become a legend in my opinion. I'd never think twice if I were you and go for the 135i or keep the one you currently have. |
