I just bought the same Tune2Air model and have the exact same issue. Car treats it as an aux in only so all controls have to be done via the phone…model WMA3000B

I recently got this as well, and it's definitely the best solution I've found yet for my base sound system. Not perfect, but good enough. You'll also need a small cigarette lighter USB:

This has been a good compromise until I (eventually) upgrade the iDrive to use a Combox and a USB HDD.

My Tunai Firefly is here but I can’t seem to get it to work - the AUX volume stays at zero and won’t budge. What can I do?

I have a 2012 E82M and plugged the Firefly in as described in this thread (in the centre console, with cigarette-lighter adapter etc). This Internet photo shows what my predicament.

When you select the AUX volume with the iDrive control, nothing happens? Or are you just spinning the iDrive knob without pushing down first to select the volume control?

What happens if you plug something else into the aux connection (phone, ipod, etc.)? Same issue? If so, your Combox may be giving up the ghost and will need to be replaced.

Thanks! Dropped by an audio shop today and they also said the combox is dead. Rather than replacing it (which would mean merely keeping up with old technology), they recommended retrofitting the system for Apple CarPlay.

I don’t know much about Carplay since my 1M is so old, but reckon it’s worth considering since I’m already deep into the Apple ecosystem.

This may be old news, but wanted to share my experience in case it was helpful to others. The Tune2Air WMA3000B is working great in my 2010 135 with iDrive with an iPhone 15 (with USB-C connector, which is why my cable no longer worked).

It's been surprisingly reliable--just works. Steering wheel controls work, and song/playlist info on the iDrive screen. The BMW USB port in the arm rest area also cuts power a few minutes after shutting off the car, so you don't have to plug and unplug it to avoid it draining your battery over extended periods.

It basically has been working as well as the BMW cable ever did. I'll report back if I find issues.
