I had no idea that the Z4 sDrive35is has 32 valves! So I guess that four of the cylinders have 5 and two have 6 (likely actuated only during overboost situations)!

^ Could be a typo, following is taken from BMW USA specs for Z4 sdrive35is:

EngineLiter/type/valves per cylinder TwinPower Turbo 3.0/inline 6/4

Yes, I expect it was. AFAIK, the motors are identical.

I don't know how people are comparing the 1M to the 135i, 335i/is, z43.5i/is
Comparing it to tt-s/rs, cayman s/r, and even Evo and STI makes sense though,
Cars made to rip it up around corners, not accelerate in a straight line the fastest, since all of those have ~340 more or less, and are all coupled with amazing chassis set-ups

BMW is using TwinPower turbo to mean either twin turbo or twin scroll single turbo these days... I believe they use that phrase for the x35is cars as well.

I love how BMW ignores the Nissan 370Z... this car is easily a competitor for the 1M, and I have a feeling the Nismo version may even be a bit faster(around a track as well)...

I got the pricing of the 1M off the big info release on this site, first page... first post, you have to click "pricing"

I got the Porsche pricing off the US website;
http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/cayman/cayman-r/

I have no idea why the Cayman is priced as high as it is... name presitge I guess.
Because the Cayman S with the PDK is an absolutely amazing machine to drive, and the figures for it do no justice. Go to your local Porsche dealership and drive a CS equipped with the 7 speed DCT, and you'll know why the Porsche is so reputable.

what? what a horrible comparison between the 1m and the CS. the CS gets around the same track times as the m3, not the 1m. theres evidence of that. what a ridiculous comparison.

maybe its apt to compare the base cayman to the 1m, but not the CS. and didnt someone in the m division come out saying that they are not worried about those numbers and are more worried about how it feels driving a m car? what happened?

I have a friend that owns a 350Z ... and he just bought a 135... and I while he loves his... Z, he fully states the 135 is FAR superior.

Also... since you say BMW " ignores" the 370z... in the US... several years back BMW had a test drive where you could come out and drive the BMW 335 coupe vs the 350 coupe head to head.... This went through several cities in the US as a rollout for the 335 with straight line acceleration and slalom tests... and then a trip around a track in the 335. and yes... the 370 has more HP... but not enough to really change the car.. or the comparison outcome..

In Europe the main rival might be Audi RS3: the base price is with 1000 EURO lower, the sprint from 0 to 62 mph is with 0,3 sec faster and it has the advantage of two more doors (from a family point of view).
Can t wait for the comparative between these two and I'm sure that BMW will be the better car, as M3 won against all its rivals

To name the facts:
  1. Base Cayman: The 1 M will wipe the floor with this ridiculous Porsche
  2. Cayman S: Around Nürburgring Nordschleife the Cayman S will be slower. Around Hockenheim Ring I guess Cayman S will be faster. So a quite even picture here. BUT Cayman S cost much more!
  3. Cayman R: Will be faster than 1 M in any discipline - BUT costs MUCH MUCH more - so comparison makes NO SENSE here.

Bye.

Those 0-60 times are conservative. C&D got the Cayman S to 60 in 4.2.

1. With your reasoning the 128i is a sad excuse of a BMW.
2.Got facts to back it up?

On paper the TT-RS seems to be the best of the bunch and according to BMW the Audi has more leading performance areas. I think it's impressive because the Audi despite being 4WD, heavy, smaller and smallest engine does very well. However, based on PRICE the 1M is the winner and probably has best bang for buck. I could not justify the price of the TT-RS, however, I would need to compare specs and options.

I don't even see the comparison, on track a new Cayman S PDK will probably beat the 1M and M3 on track.

Just cause the 1M and Audi TT look better than the Cayman S on paper, it doesn't mean it is better.

The Cayman S is a KING around the track, but of course not as good as GT3.
