Side mirror glass replacement
Curious if anyone knows the answer to this.....
I have the discoloration on my side mirrors, and the right one is blurry. It's out of warranty so that's not an option. The mirrors are: Auto-Dip (right) Auto-Dim Heated I don't care about auto-dim, but do want heated. Will these fit or is there a special fitment for the auto-dip? I can't seem to find an answer to this after a LOT of searching. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...rors/ES251356/ Please and thank you. |

Your link doesn't work. I think the ECS ones are the blue euro wide angle mirrors - right? They should work fine.
All US cars have heated mirrors - from what I understand. The auto dip mirrors are big bucks from BMW. ~$400 each. I would go with the blue euro ones.

This may be what you're looking for:
http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135i-N55_3.0l/ES84070/ It's the smaller version since you have an 08. There's also the blind spot setup. http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...Mirror/ES9945/ |

I've had to change discoloured mirrors on my old e46 as well...my e82 is starting to form a small discolouration on the passenger side mirror now >
EDIT: my 2003 e46 330xi was equipped with the cold weather package which also has heated mirrors

When looking for mirror replacements, please note that there's different mirrors for early model (smaller mirror) versus later model. There's also a different option for the blue versus regular, the blind spot assist versus regular, and the dimming versus just heated.
Also, I believe (don't quote me on this) that the heating element for the later model mirrors is built-in to the mirror itself rather than the housing, which causes the replacement to be more expensive . |

http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...rors/ES251356/ What threw me off was that they also have a special auto-dip mirror but only for the larger mirrors. Thanks for the info, it helps. |

So I ordered the Euro blind spot mirrors and they do NOT fit. The connection in the mirror housing (4 point connection) is completely different than what's on the Euro mirror (two prong).
The right one was easy to get out, but the left one was such a pain I ended up cracking it in the process. So now I need to return the Euro ones and I HAVE to buy new glass. Blah. OEM connection Euro mirror connection Last edited by Crazycarl; 04-11-2013 at 05:05 PM.. |

Doesn't that plug mean that you have auto-dimming?
take a look at the plug in this mirror via the pics on the site, they have a closeup http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E82-135...rror/ES514269/ |

You could also just install the euro mirrors and not plug in the heating element. ? Btw... I just picked up a set of euro mirrors from my German dealer the other day. I won't be able to install them for a week or so though. Here are the part numbers for my 2010 US spec 135. I do not have auto dimming, just electric and heated mirrors. My euro mirrors are silver btw. bmw p/n 51167252894 bmw p/n 51167252893

That's what I was thought at first as well so I tried to pull the end of the adapter off of my mirrors. It didn't come off easily and I didn't want to force it in case I was wrong. I'll try again tomorrow to see if I can pry it off without breaking anything. I'm sure the adapter is $500

The close up on this is exactly what my plug looks like. But I'm trying to avoid ordering the $600 - $800 mirrors if I can. I'm not crazy about the auto dimming but I really like the heated mirrors. It's still snowing every week in Colorado so it comes in handy. |

You wouldn't be the first to get the wrong mirrors from ECS. I don't have dimming or auto-dip (thankfully $$$), but I got the right wide angle mirrors from ECS and they plugged right in for my 2/2009 production 135i. |

It looks like the mirrors I have(ordered from my dealer) are the correct ones).
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...7&postcount=52 I will install them this week and post my findings here.

I know, that's why I made this thread. I was trying to find out if the auto-dim or auto-dip had a special connection or if I could just order the cheaper heated Euro ones.
From other threads and a couple of responses here it seemed like most people thought there wouldn't be an issue, but there was. Auto dimming mirrors have the 4 prong. I just bit the bullet and bought the OEM ones from ECS since nothing else fits. Not the Euro auto-dim wide angle though - those are $$$$$ |

Installed the new mirror glass today and everything looks perfect. I got OEM replacements from ECS.
Recap in case anyone else has this issue: Auto-dim uses a 4 pin connector No auto-dim uses a two prong connector OEM Part for auto-dim, heated, 2008 51167132746 - Right 51167132749 - Left |
