Upgrading midpipe
Hello all,
I am wondering if upgrading my midpipe to the n55 mid will make my car a lot louder and if its worth it. I currently have afe downpipes and everything else stock exhaust wise. Anyone have an exhaust clip running a similar setup? I love how my car isn't very loud right now, but I had a friend tell me upgrading to an uncatted mid will give me a healthy bump in performance. I will be fbo next week and have a guy with a stock c6 z06 that wants to run for $ so every little bit counts. |

I finally installed my N55 mid pipes on my N54. I was really thinking it would make the car LOUD... but it really is not. Just a bit more deeper in tone. But when you go WOT it has more "bark". Still it is no means what I would call loud. I will make some videos this week and post them.

Hard to tell. I think more power in the mid range. Definately more volume of sound. I went thru a tunnel today and it sounded GOOD! Perhaps my DME is still adpating to the new flow - since the secondary kittys are gone. I think under 2K rpms I lost some power... but in the mid range and top end the engine just screams. I have a stage II tune... 380 PS and 520Nm. What I noticed is my exhaust doesn't wheeez when I go WOT now. Before you could really her the air rushing out of the exhaust tips. Now its just a wooosh, not a high presure Weeeeeez!

I just removed my Madad Mid Pipe today and put the stock catted mid back on. I have AR Catless Dp and with fully catless my car pumps out tons of smoke and smell! I really cannot handle it. But that just me

I remember someone on here posted that they had catless DP and stock axle back and enjoyed the sound. When they switched to N55 mids they said it sounded terrible with the stock axle back.
I have N55 mids and the rest stock and it sound great. |

People have debated extensively over the "strength" of n54 vs n55, what does seem fairly clear is that if you want to power mod, but retain the OE turbos (ie no RB/shiv type single) the n54 is a bit more capable..the twins just flow better than the single. Ive heard the n54 is forged vs cast for n55, but ive also heard thats nonsense, seems to be as much speculation as anything. Imo n54 is the stronger powerplant, n55 is more efficient and modern, its total garbage to call one way better than the other.
Oh and as for midpipes, i highly recommend the berks, mine havent gone on yet but i know another n54 owner with them on and they add a nice deepness and growl to the tone. More crackling off throttle too, thats always a good thing.

I am running stock catted DPs with the Maddad mid. Sounds great and no funky smells and smoke.

I am running stock downpipes, Berk midpipe and stock axle back. Has a similar tone to stock but definitely louder. On a scale of 1 to 10 for volume, stock is about a 2, and my setup is a 4. Sounds really good at WOT and crusin around town.

I'm looking for a catted midpipe. I'd be willing to swap you my stock N55 mid pipe if you're interested?
UPDATE: Swapped someone for N54 midpipe. Sooo much better. Last edited by loesch; 10-24-2012 at 09:38 PM.. |

c6 z06 with intake and tune will put down around 480whp on a dynojet. In addition to an intake, he woulld have to have at least a set of longtube headers and maybe ported or aftermarket intake manifold if he is putting down 530whp. Ive seen bone stock Z's do around 11flat in the 1/4, so they are no joke. Threy only weigh around 3100lbs as well. Drag radials put them in the 10's bone stock. From a roll they are extremely tough to keep up with. Check out some of this guys runs...
