Free Internet Radio over iPhone4
Long story short - you don't need nav, and by default you dont need BMW Apps to listen to free internet radio over your stereo.
Car: 1M, non-Nav, HK stereo, ipod/USB, BT Phone: iPhone4 1. Install TuneIn Radio on your iPhone, get a station playing (I have not tried other free internet radio apps - this one worked for me) 2. Plug your iPhone into the car via the iPhone/USB port 3. Choose the iPod audio source on your radio (by default your 'iPod' will start playing music as usual, and your TuneIn Radio app on your phone will stop playing the stream) 4. Press the 'Play' icon in the TuneIn Radio app. 5. Viola - listen to free internet radio I only tried this after realizing that my voicemail was played over the stereo. Now that I think about it, perhaps the audio from the app is streaming over BT. Hmmm will have to with that. I'll also have to try out Pandora.... will update this thread from the car later. Anyway - in honor of the Bavarian Boys and Girls responsible for the 1M, the first station that caught my eye was: 'Die Schlagergarage' But, I'm on the hunt for some German and UK style house, electo stations. What are you listening to? UPDATE: Defn plays digitally through the cable. Not BT. And works with Pandora. So glad We dont need to use analog AUX cable or poor quality BT. Yippee. Have Nav and bluetooth, don't have Sirius, which i'd love to have, so i just subscribe to their internet radio and plug my phone in under my center console, switch over to aux and ipod starts playing, then hit the sirius app and hit play and it takes over. Works the same way with pandora, iheartradio, 8 tracks, and pretty much every other app out there.

Works over cable, not BT.
Also your headunit will display what was playing on your phone's ipod. Whatever that was will be paused, until you pause whatever you have playing via phone app. |

Yah this works fine. I listen to a lot of audiobooks on the audible app. As you state just activate the iphone over the radio through the usb cable. Once playing switch to whatever app you want to play on the phone. It will usually even start back up with whatever app that was the next time you plug in. Pause for phone calls etc all pause the app too which is cool.

What I've noticed is that when streaming Pandora, the first song/artist information will display on the headunit. But after the first song, information from Pandora doesn't get transmitted/displayed properly. I haven't gotten around to emailing pandora about that yet but it does demonstrate that the song info is readily available via the USB interface.

Can also use the next song button on the steering wheel to change songs on pandora!

I have nav and I use the this American life app all the time to listen to episodes of that NPR show. Normally it just displays the album art, artist and track of the last song I was listening to but if I switch to radio really quickly and then back to iPod it'll show the album art and episode info and the progress bar will also correctly show the progress of the episode
