FYI - Discontinued BMW Performance 128i Intakes on clearance

Someone on FB pointed out that BMS has the OEM BMW Performance intake for 128i on clearance for $399. If you google the part number 13720444749 it should be the top link.

I shared this info on the e90post forums and someone immediately posted them for $725 in the 1addicts classified section with only a stock photo. I suspect this person is trying to flip them for a quick profit without even having it in hand.

So, if you are looking for this discontinued part, I would jump on that deal from BMS. I got mine the other day and it was new in box as advertised. Appears to just be old stock.

And yes, this part adds little/no power and honesty not even a ton of sound. It's pretty much just engine bay bling.

It is so sad that it doesn't fit on my 125i (eurobox with conical air filter)!

Wow I thought these were long gone. Too bad they don’t have the euro version. I would jump on one of those if I could find one.

Ordered mine around 1:30EST, got a shipping confirmation around 4:30. Kinda surprised, figured it was a mistake and the order would be canceled.

I received mine and installed it on the car last week. So they are definitely actually shipping out and not cancelling lol.

Good to hear! Figured they just found 1 or 2 in a warehouse and my order would get canceled as I'm assuming they're getting slammed with them rn.

What are your thoughts on the intake? Any noticeable increase in power or sound?

Hard to say... maybe a very slight increase in power but it could be placebo. I also did the charcoal filter delete at the same time.

I would say there is a very slight increase in engine sound but not drastic.

I mostly did the mod because I was due for a new filter (it comes with a K&N style filter), and like the way the carbon duct looks. Also I'm a sucker for discontinued OEM parts new in box

I can see why people didn't buy for 1000$ - plus ~3 hp, lol!
But it does look cool, for sure

Looks like BMS still has one/some in stock at $399. Looks great, but yeah that price to performance ratio...

I've ordered one.
Two comments: 1. the air filter looks high quality/long life. New it'll be about $85
2. Like the Euro box, simply take top cover off to change filter.

1) It's a K&N filter--the same one you would install into a stock intake. There's nothing wrong with that. It's a good filter.

2) No such luck. You still need to pull the whole box out and separate the halves.

That would be one major plus: not having to take the entire box out to change the air filter. Why make it harder than unscrewing 4 or 6 screws to change the air filter??

yeah unfortunately you still have to pull the entire box even though it looks like the euro box on the top. But you do get a nice K&N style oiled filter in the kit.

Yeah I know. It's a bit of a bummer because you can't even sell your old intake since you bolt one half of the stock intake to the new half.

I'm just spitballing here, but I think that the US kit would fit on a Eurobox. Looks like the only difference between the US kit (13720444749) and the EU kit (13720444748) is that the latter doesn't include the top half of the airbox (US kit includes the top half that houses the filter but reuses the stock bottom half w/ the charcoal filter) and the included filters (panel for the US, conical for the EU).

Assuming that the lids are the same, which it looks like they are given that the included brackets are identical, you should be able to install the US kit and just source your own filter. I compared the filter included with the kit to my K&N that I was running before and they're identical minus the BMW stamping on the side, so you should be able to use any K&N that fits the stock eurobox.

If I can get my hands on a cheap Euro box I might give this a go. I don't see how there'd be much of a benefit to the PI vs. the standard Eurobox though given that its just the slightly larger CF snorkel and a K&N filter.

sadly it doesn't fit. The screw pattern of the cover is different

To anyone looking for a euro air box, this thread helped me.

https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1460099

I see euro intakes for sale on the forum for $300+ when they are easily available on German and UK ebay for $100 or sometimes much less. I paid $50 for mine shipped to the US.

See post #4. I ordered mine Monday 30 August. Today Sep 7th, I got a message from BMS requiring me to submit a personal verification of myself and my credit card which I did immediately. Hope I'm not getting screwed.
I'm "somewhat" Ok with this because I'm a 1st time customer, in another country and some 2800 miles away.
Let us pray.
