I lapped the Nürburgring 4 times without crashing!
I made it to the 'ring finally! Monday in Belgium was a public holiday and my friend was taking his Ferrari to Nürburg so he invited me along. I took my 123d and had an absolute blast. Even if I was slightly terrified at times.
The cars on display were incredible, even a brand new red Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing being appropriately thrashed round the track! I wrote a blog about the experience complete with a few photos so I'll let you read all about it there. Needless to say I highly recommend the 'ring although driving on it should not be taken lightly! I was obliterated by the Ring Taxi at one point. http://urbanemusings.wordpress.com/2...nger-a-virgin/ Feel free to follow my blog as well. I'm sure I post the odd thing that might interest you car fanatics...

Thanks. Yep, there were several R35's there as well but I didn't get a photo

Right on. Driving the 'Ring is a blast. You just have to watch out for those motorcycles in your rear view. They come up on you quick if you aren't paying attention.

Motorcycles weren't allowed on the track in the morning which was lucky. But they came on in the afternoon and yes, they came up behind me very quickly. Didn't need as much room to pass though which was good. They are officially complete nutters.

I agree, they are nuts. If I was on a bike, I wouldn't want to be on the track with cars everywhere.

Congrats. Driving the Nurburgring is an amazing experience, one of those I will remember forever. It was very nerve-wracking though, considering
1. I don't know the track that well. A couple dozen laps on Forza don't help that much. 2. I don't have much track experience. 3. Insurance coverage there isn't very clear 4. The Nurburgring is a notoriously hard track. I planned to do 3 laps, but after two, I felt I was pushing my luck and wimped out! Still, it's a must-do for every ED I do in the future. Trust me, there will be EDs in the future! Glad you had a great time there. Steve |

And a black GT-R on the left of the photo.
Great that you had a good time!

Damn, in that pic alone I see an R34 GT-R, an R35 GT-R, Focus RS, E46 M3, what looks like a Porsche GT3 RS, and is that a 6series next to you with their door open?
I really need to make it up there and drive the track, at least once. If only this damn country would give us some nice weather when Im off work. |

In no particular order, whilst I was there I saw:
Mercedes SLS AMG Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (several) Porsche 911's (GT2, GT3RS, Turbo, C4S etc etc) E46 M3's (dozens) E92 M3's KTM X-Bow Various AMG Mercedes Ford Focus RS's VW Golf R's BMW 135i's BMW 123d (mine ) Nissan GTR's Chevrolet Corvettes Ferrari 599 Ferrari 355 BMW M6 And heaps more that I can't think of right now. Cheaper stuff too like RenaultSport Meganes, MazdaSpeed 3's, and Golf GTi's.

I'm planning another trip to the Nürburgring on June 25 if anyone is in the neighbourhood and would like to meet up there.

Is Nurburgring always open to the public? From what I've read it is sometimes closed to the plubic. Is that true? Is there anywhere to find out when it is closed? I'm picking my car up in Munich the end of March and would like to go to nurburgring and check it out.

Had my ED all planned with a trip to the Ring included but the wife and I couldnt coordinate schedules to do it. I regret it today. Its on my Bucket List and one day I'll do a couple laps there.
Just for fun, did you time your laps? |
