True, but a 12 year old BMW needs a coding tool, just makes sense. Saves time and money.

As much as I complain about all the needless automation in my BMW, it is pretty astounding that they can get 12 years out of a battery. It would just be nice if you could re-code your battery without any additional expense.
So that's 5 of us with over 10 yrs on original battery

I should put my old Odyssey 680 on the CTEK charger and try to refresh it. Last time I checked it still held a charge and it's around 20 years old now.

I'm thinking he meant if you got stranded somewhere. It'd be at least a little bit of a PITA.

It's why I replaced mine after 9+ years. No issues showing at all, but I know it was an outlier for life span and so I did it so I wouldn't get stuck anywhere.

Everyone can do what they want of course.

If you're counting your time as worthless while retired then I'm sorry

Mine is approaching 12 years old. No signs of any problems, even when the temperature is in the teens.

Replacing the battery this weekend. Can anyone attest to the easiest registration app/process? Is it Carly, Bimmerlink?

I've done Carly on my E82 and I think INPA or Rheingold on a friends E60. Can't remember which. Carly is very easy and appears to have worked fine. Just know the capacity of your new battery in Amp-Hours to program that especially if you're getting a different size. I think I went from and H6 or 7 to an H8.
