Sure. I bought the $5 version of torque and have it on my Samsung 7 inch tablet. I also bought a OBDII to bluetooth adapter. I've used this software in both my bimmer and in my Suzuki SUV. It works well. You get extra virtual gauges plus the ability to read and clear check engine codes. I wish I had a good way to mount the tablet and I would use it more often. I bought a mount but it was not secure.

Thanks Jim.
I found a couple of the Bluetooth dongles on ebay but it seems quite a few people have problems with them....typical made in China crap I suppose. I'll give one a try. Can't go wrong for $15 Cheers

I don't remember which one I bought but I bought it from Amazon. Their reviews are handy sorting out the good from the bad, I think.

I suggest the PLX Kiwi if you have Android.
Most of the cheaper OBD BT adapters have too slow of a data transmission rate to be considered "real time", which imo is important for this application. |

I am very intrigued by this. Not sure how I had not heard of it before. Does anyone know if this works with a cobb map installed?
And any recommendations on a cheap android 7" tablet? |

I got one of these for my car along with a Nexus 4 mount and their quick release for the phone mount. It works very well. They also make mounts for the Tab.

I hadn't thought of using a Steelie. It might be worth a try. The mount I bought uses a suction cup but that end is not the issue. It is the arms that hold the tablet. A big bump will cause the arms to come apart or drop the tablet. It just won't hold the weight.
I use a Samsung Galaxy tablet. I paid about $200 and have seen it for about 10% less since. I've seen cheaper tablets but never used them. The Samsung works well for what I use it for, reading email, a little web browsing, checking the weather, and paying bills. I still fire up a laptop when I have serious things to get done but for a quick glance at email or other things, the tablet is handy. And Torque works well on it. You can easily get half a dozen gauges on the screen. If I had the cell phone version (with a plan) I would also use it to bring in music over the internet. At home I use Sky sometimes. Jim

As far as a tablet for the vehicle, I would suggest a Nexus 7. The price is good, but, more importantly, it will charge fast enough for you to have the screen at full brightness, wifi on (for hotspot tethering), BT on, and GPS active. Many tablets have too high of a draw for all those things to be on and still net a positive charge from the car's power adapter. There's a lot of into at xda-developers in the Nexus 7 forum regarding vehicle integration if you wanted to pursue this further. Here's my old tablet setup in my 370z using the Kiwi PLX bt adapter and Torque- |

Since the Nexus 7's screen is so close to a DIN opening, I'd originally planned to mount mine where the stereo currently lives in my Miata, but figured that it wouldn't stay charged at full bright, which one needs in a convertible. |

Where did you put the Steelie? I'm stuck on where to put it and not block the airflow from the HVAC.

I stuck mine above the radio on the trim centered between the vents. My phone actually hangs below the vents because I didn't center the mount on the phone. Instead...I stuck it on the Apple logo becasue that's where the opening is on the Otterbox case I use.
