The NEW Official 128i/135i/1M Track Records Thread

Since the BERK thread is never being updated again, I'm carrying it over here to this shiny, new thread. Will try to update everything as best as I can.

Please post your fastest lap time on any given road course in this thread and I will update the database. This is limited to cars who are owned or driven by people on these forums.

Username of car owner:
Driver Name:
Track:
Configuration:
Lap Time:
Tires:
Link to video or results (optional)

Any lap time not given in the thousandths will be substituted with 9s. Example: 1:28.3xx will automatically be 1:28.399.

For the sake of brevity, all cars are 135i, unless otherwise noted.

Track: Lime Rock Park
Configuration: Standard
Lap Time:1.03.4
Tires: Direzza ZII
Car: Stock 135i, with exception of Ferodo pads, track level brake fluid and the Dunlop ZIIs.

Had a great, cool weather day at LRP with plenty of quality track time. In fact, SCDA opened up the last Intermediate 2 session to the advanced group so we had an extra session of track time with very few cars to share it with. Nothing wrong with that.

I was able to get into a good groove and put up a new personal best time (starting at 1:38 in the vid). Pretty happy with the time a 135i can put up considering my car is basically a showroom stock 135i. Also, loving the ZIIs as they have great feel and seem to handle my abuse in stride. It will be interesting to see how many days they will last.

Here's the fastest I have of me at VIR in my 135... a 2:18. I also have beat Kori with a 1:26.08 on summit main...but no video as my phone didn't record video for some reason. But have several other vids running in the 1:27s-29's Man can't believe how time flies and how much faster I am now in a slow car vs that one haha.

Let's get this back on the first page now that track season is just underway everywhere except socal. Just to clarify thunderbolt and lightning are completely separate tracks, not different configs of the same course

NJMP Thunderbolt
No Chicane
1:42.78

NJMP Lightning
1:20.6

Both laps on following setup
Dunlop Z2SS, TCK SA, Eibach FSB, EBC Yellow front pads, FBO on pump gas

Had a track weekend at Gingerman with WMHM... always a ton of fun. I rarely had the gopro or harry's lap timer out since I was too busy, but of the one session Harry's did capture I show a 1:43.9. Below is a video from a different session which also seems to capture a high 1:43. I *may* have went slightly faster in subsequent sessions as I was getting more comfortable with the car, but I doubt they ever broke the 42s. In general I was very impressed with the car. It the grand scheme of BMW builds its very simple, budget style build yet I got within 3 seconds of my personal best with my E90 M3 which had take off slicks, clubsport suspension, brakes, and minor engine mods.

Username of car owner: WhatsADSM
Driver Name: WhatsADSM
Track: Gingerman Raceway
Configuration: CW (Standard)
Lap Time: 1:43.87
Tires: 245/275 Hankook Z214
Other: Tune, Downpipe, IC, Radiator/Oil Cooler. ST Coilovers, M3 Arms, RSFB, 340mm F30 Front Brakes, PFC 08, Custom Brake Ducting, 245/275 Hankook Z214.

Here is a full session for more enjoyment. BTW you can hear right at the end of this video, before I pass the start finish, the car complete cut on me during a nasty limp mode due to oil temps well over 300*F. It had already reduced my power that lap, but eventually the DME took more drastic measures when I kept trying to go for it (I finally had some open road!):

I like the camera angle on the tow hook.

I did my 1st track day at a course other than Autobahn CC. Apart from the car throwing a mystery ECU55 code EVERY SESSION! I had a blast. I was able to get between 6-8 laps before the car went into limp mode and reduced power and put a rev limit at 5500 in 3rd and struggled to get above 4k in 4th.

I noticed that my battery voltage was oddly low hovering just below or at 14v at idle. I am going to check out the Alternator and Voltage Regulator later this week.

anyways....

Thanks for keeping up with this, good to see that some people still care!

I'll have to wait for the official times to be released, but I was out at Driveway Austin (L1) again this weekend and was able to shave about a full second off my previous best time!

I'm also signed up for the SCCA Track Night in America on Aug 30 at Circuit of the Americas so I should have a time for that soon! So pumped!!!

Just wanted to ask if you've been to any recent F1 races at COTA? I'm considering heading out to Austin this year and want to ask a local!

I went to the race last year with my wife and had a great time! Bought 3-day tickets for the Turn 12 bleachers, which IMO are the best deal you can get. They're the least expensive bleacher seats, but you get basically the same view as the Turn 15 bleachers that are twice as much. Turn 12 lets you see the end of the back straight, and the turn 12-15 complex where some great racing takes place! While the F1 race itself was great, I honestly enjoyed the support races even more. Last year they had a historic F1 car series and the Porsche GT3 Cup series. Both had more competitive racing and were much less crowded than the main event. For those races, we walked around the entire perimeter of the track and watched from various places. The main reason my wife agreed to go was for the Taylor Swift concert, but she actually got really into the racing for those races! Plenty of food options were available, but prices were fairly high as one would expect at any sporting event. Lines did get quite long on Sunday so be aware of that. For parking, I'd HIGHLY recommend you buy a parking pass. I did not and instead chose to ride the shuttle from a parking lot in town. For $25/person each day, it really wasn't much cheaper than the parking pass. Also, the drop-off point for the shuttle was still about a 25-30 minute walk from the track entrance... NOT what the wife wanted to do after walking around the 3 mile track all day. As far as lodging is concerned, hotels fill up fast and prices are hiked way up for F1 weekend. If being in Austin for the nightlife isn't that important to you, I'd recommend looking in San Marcos, which is a college town only about 30 min South on I-35 (also looks like there is not football game that weekend so you'll have even less competition). New Braunfels or San Antonio would probably be even cheaper, but you're looking at a 1 hr or 1.5 hr drive, respectively. Unfortunately, it wasn't in the budget for us to go this year, but I'd love to go again. I'm sure I'm forgetting some stuff so if you have any more questions about the event or the area please ask!

Circuit of the Americas: 2:50.40 - Stock RFT

I was only able to video the first of 3 sessions since my phone battery started running low, but I was able to get in a fairly clean 2:51.15 on my 3rd lap of the session shown in the video below. Only managed two traffic-free laps all morning being in the novice group, but it was a great experience anyway!

Third lap starts at 6:20 in the video if you want to skip ahead. Camaro in front of me almost spins coming out of T20, so I had to check up a little at the start of the front straight. Forgot to downshift into T1 and tried to exit in 5th, definitely cost me some time there. Tried experimenting with different lines through T8, but for this lap, drove straight at the apex and sacrificed some speed through the turn to set up for the quick left hander. Flat through the T10 left hand kink, and then hard on the brakes and late apex T11 before the looong back straight. Went a little wide out of T13 and then straight-lined it out of T14 to T15 (the race driver that did the track walk said this was the fastest line, but leaves you vulnerable to passes in a race situation). Coming into T16, stay wide of the first apex, and aim for the second, and then the apexes of T17 and T18 just come to you as you hold the steering constant and roll onto the throttle through the turn. Blew the entry to T20 and went wide which let the ATS-V pull away even more than he had been on the straights, haha. I really wanted to break 2:50, but it wasn't meant to be on that day
