Comparing a 3.5 liter motor to a 3.0 liter motor is like comparing apples and oranges ,to make my point the BMW 325 SE(rest of the world engine is a 2.5l motor) is faster than the Lexus IS 250(2.5l motor).
BMW 325 SE sprints from 0 to 60 in7 sec /Lexus IS 250 in 8.1 sec. There won't be videos, courtesy of Lexus proving my point.

In my opinion, Lexus is, and will always be, a Toyota. Just like the Phaeton will always be a Volkswagen. I don't car how much it costs, or how big the engine is. Neither will ever completely shake off that stigma.

That said, I used to own a Lexus (an ES300) back in 1998. It was my first, and at the same time my last. Thankfully I only had it for 2 years.

Just relax....help is on the way from Munich. You don't think the guys at BMW are going to let Lexus "out HP" the 3 series for very long....do you?

Look at the video, at the end of the race, the BMW slowed down so gradually while the Lexus' stop was more sudden and swift. This shows something about the drivers.

I don't want to come across as the boy waving the little BMW flag but You're right. Also on such a short circuit, handling will be more important than 0 to 60 1/2 a sec quicker car advantage. We all know behind a reasonable doubt that the E90 handles better.

All I have to say is any IS owner that wants to take his car around the track with myself behind the wheel of my 330i has an open invitation. Then we will have something that I can comment about.
That person driving that 330 is either not pushing that BMW to the point it likes to be driven or he is scared to. Come on, if your going to do something like that and then bash a car, at least make it something that is real and not staged. Do they think we are stupid?!

I got confirmation from someone over at the lexus boards who was there that it was in fact staged:

his post:
----Back to the original topic: I also saw the "race" between the 330i and IS350 at Taste of Lexus. It was so obviously rigged that people in the audience were booing (and these are, for the most part, Lexus fans and owners). There is no doubt that the IS350 is quite a bit faster than the 330i off the line, especially the automatic (which is what we should be comparing after all, apples to apples). However, there is also little doubt in my mind that they told the 330i driver to ease off the gas a little bit. The 350 should win, but not by that much.-----

honestly I test drove both the IS350, 330i and G35.
I dont see where all these people are bringing
up the IS350 v 330i competition anyway. That's no
contest. Anyone driven the G35? G35 feels better than the
IS350. I think it's the closest any car company has come to matching the 330i. It should be 330i vs G35.
It will be interesting to see+ driver the new '07 G35.

fake video

im pretty sure the car in that video was a 325 cause it didnt have any of the chrome lining around the doors. Im guessin it was a bunch of Lexus retards tryin to sell a car and decided to trick people by using a 325. Ive raced an IS350 before and it started going ahead after 40.

where is the fairness in that? the clip pissed me off coz the e90 is like getting gangbanged by IS owners! IS 350 obviously has so much more horsepower for the straight-line but even the IS owners agree that e90 has better handling..for those IS 350 drivers who love to put our e90 down, why dont u race a bmw with a similar hp and a similar body size? i'd love to see an M3 beat the crap outta an IS 350 but is that fair??
