N55 HPFP Failure?
My 2011 135i DCT went into limp mode while driving home today. I pulled over and checked the codes (attached) and I'm thinking it's the HPFP. I can't find a lot of info related to HPFP failed on the N55... Does anybody have experience? Thanks.

I've ordered a new HPFP and am working on disassembly in my limited free time. Thankfully this isn't my only vehicle. |

Just an update - I installed a new HPFP over the weekend, but I'm still getting some of the same codes:
2BEE - High fuel pressure, plausibility, cold start: Pressure too low. 2EE0 - Combustion misfiring, several cylinders: Fuel injection deactivation. 2EE2 - Combustion misfiring, cylinder 5: Fuel injection deactivation. 2EF1 - Combusion misfiring, cylinder 5: damaging exhaust gas after start sequence. 2EFE - Misfire, several cylinders: Damaging to catalytic converter or damaging exhaust gas. 2F03 - Misfire, cylinder 5: Damaging to catalytic converter or damaging exhaust gas. So I pulled the coil packs and plugs, which are about 4 months old. The plug in cylinder 5 had a lot of fuel on it and maybe that's why there's no combustion in that cylinder. I ordered a new plug to replace that one and will validate all plug gaps before installing again. I'm also going to swap the coil packs from cylinder 1 to 5 to rule that out... Any other suggestions for what I should try? |

Update -
The problem was a leaking injector on cylinder 5. I replaced the injectors on 5 and 6 since they share all the same labor. I plan to replace the rest of the injectors soon as well. As a side note, if you have a 2011 135i built before 1/1/11 you'll need different injectors, a different injector removal tool, and the actual process is way more labor intensive than an N54 or N55 produced after 1/1/11. Shout out to FCP Euro for making returning opened parts extremely painless. |

There are two banks... cylinder's 1 thru 3 and 4 thru 6. What index were your old injectors and what index was the two new plugs? I believe #12 are the latest and greatest injector version. You also must program(code) the injectors to the DME. When you replaced your HPFP... you should have also replaced the fuel line pressure sensor just before the pump. Here are some pics. This sensor can go bad and throw HPFP codes. BMW recommends replacing it when you replace the HPFP. Did you replace your coils and plugs bc of a drive ability issue? Could be carbon buildup on your intake valves. PS: If you have not had the vanos bolt recall done you should look into that. The bolts for the vanos shear clean off the camshaft adjustment and end up in your oil pan. Good Luck, Dackel

I read all about replacing the injectors in sets of 3, but I think that pertains to n54. N55 doesn't have 12 revisions of injectors... The new ones I installed are the same part number as what was installed on the car at factory. The only revision BMW made was to top-mount the injectors after 1/1/11 instead of bottom mounting. Otherwise there's no difference. I plan to replace the other 4 injectors anyway, I just wanted to make sure this was the problem before spending money on all 6.
I didn't replaced the fuel sensor, but HPFP didn't end up being my problem anyway. If I see any HPFP codes I'll remember that and replace the sensor first. VANOS bolt has been done on my car. Previous owner was pretty good about keeping up on maybe and recalls. Edit - coils and plugs were done because when I bought the car the previous owner had receipts for the plugs 30k miles prior, and nothing for coils so I assumed they were original. The car drove just fine before and after replacing those. |
