Take a look at my nice peeling steering wheel..

So, I just had my first scheduled maint done last week. They had to keep the car overnight to replace one of my runflats that had a nail in it (they didn't have one in stock). Everything seemed ok, until I noticed this today:
The steering wheel is peeling badly. This is the first I have noticed this and I'm not sure if the service guys had anything to do with this. This should be part of my overall warranty right? What would they do in this matter? Replace the wheel or do they have a method of repairing it? Anyone else have this happen?

that front piece can be replaced without replacing the whole wheel. warranty should cover that.

I can't tell where that is on the wheel per se, but do you wear a wedding ring? I wonder if it rests there and is rubbing the surface off......

That's what I was thinking... Warranty should cover it as it looks like it could be a manufactures defect..

That is a common problem on BMWs, judging by previous experience they should replace that.

I had to turn the wheel upside down to take the picture. It's on the underside of the left side. No, not married yet so no ring lol. I'm going to give them a call to make an appointment. I need to have them check for my fuel pump too

Wow. Mine is just starting to "bubble up" on the edges. I push it down and it looks OK for serveral seconds then won't adhere to the surface.

How long have you had it? Keep in mind with new car prices plummeting, used car prices will be down also. And this being a new car estimating resell value is difficult until a number of have been resold or traded in. I really doubt any drop in price you've observed is related to any perceived problems with the car. Aside from the HPFP, and a few people reporting this problem, what other problems are there affecting a lot of people?

Holy crap BMW uses the same steering wheel for 95% of their cars. (this is not only a 1 series issue)

Same thing happened on my previous 335i coupe. Our cars down here don't hold up well with the sun down here. I imagine within a years time it will happen to this one as well

Do you have any factual information to back up your assertion that "this 1 series has so many problems"?

Regarding depreciation, even the IRS allows you to write off $7,660 for the first year, so if your car has only dropped $5k since 10/08, that's not bad at all. So if you are really afraid it will fall apart, maybe this is a good time to sell it and purchase a Honda.

im not afraid it would fall apart due to the fact that there is a 50,000 miles 4 yr warranty. But im just listing out what other people have mentioned. Not in my own words. Just getting a little paranoid from reading what everyone wrote on that link.Regarding the write off, how does that work? Do you know anything about luxury tax. you know how some cars if you buy at a certain amount, it is considered luxury and that you will be taxed more. Can you educate me on that if you know anything about it since you seem to be really good in the economic field of automotives.

If you used your car for business and deducted actual expenses rather than the IRS mileage figure, then you were allowed $7,660 in 2008 for first year depreciation. Believe it's the same for '09 but not certain.
