yes I have the manual, but like to talk to my car friends here

I have the N54 and now I know where I can add. I just have to turn/open the square lip in the middle.

I just talked to the dealer and told me they added the Castrol 5w-30 when the oil was changed in Feb.

Can you mix oil ratings? like if I add 0w-40 or should I just add what is in there?

Thanks,

Yes, you can mix oil viscosities, your car will be fine.

I don't trust the e-level until I have been driving the car for an hour or so. I find that after the engine oil heats up(and expands) the oil level is more accurate.

Last night got a message that my oil level is at minimum. The oil was changed in February. The message says to add 1 quart. In the Owner manual say to add withing 125 miles. To today will be be like 60 miles since the message, so need to add ASAP i guess.

Will the oil level automatically calibrate after adding oil? Anything special?

Thanks,
I just re-read your original post... since your oil was last changed in February... don't you think you should just change your oil by now? BMW says to change your engine oil at least once per year.

I would say you need to change the engine oil at least twice per year.

On our direct injected engines the engine oil really gets black and starts to break down. An oil change is far cheaper than changing the vanous or internal engine parts.

Change you oil!!

Just a little food for thought for anyone thinking of going with a cheap non OEM oil filter...
