Spied a 2020 (2019?) possible 1 series on the way home from Vegas
Took the family to visit grandma in Vegas this last weekend. Seeing camo cars is pretty common on the way home, a bunch of manufacturers to testing out in the desert.
I spotted a cool looking little camo hatchback, I thought the tail lights looked Volvo but wasn't sure. I was finally able to get ahead of it (didn't take a pic) and noted the glorious BMW nostrils. I LOVE hatchbacks and automatically assumed it was a 1 series because of the size. I started googling and found out BMW is actually bringing back the 1 series, apparently as a couple and sedan. While getting ready to pitch my wife on a new car, I then saw a report saying "The new 1 series will be based on an all new FWD platform()" So, excitement squashed immediately. Thought I'd report anyways, I had no idea BMW was building a new 1, and from what I saw there is no gurantee it's coming to the US. Seeing it being tested out in the desert makes me think it is. If it comes AWD with the new z4/Supra motor, I will own one.

Wow!!!
So we'll be getting a reworked Mini Clubman with that famous BMW reliability and affordable dealer support, but without the dreaded driving dynamics of old. Sweet!!!!! --said literally no one. Ever. |

Saw it numerous times on the ring during my several visits on Nürburgring.
On the road and on track, from what i understood all models will be FWD with some X-Drive variants. |

The grills on the ones I saw were more rounded/less angular than that rendering, but the size does look damn close.

Ugly-yes, FWD-blasphemy.... but as long as people keep buying them they will keep making them.
Its disgusting how many BMW models there are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,X1,X2,X3,X4,X5,X6,X7,i3,i4,i8,Z4,G Ts & GCs... back when I became a fan it was 3,5,6,7,&8 though the 6 production ended in the late 80s and that still seems like all they should have with maybe 2 SUVs and of course a roadster. Wheres my damn 9 series lol, or pickup truck, X9 should definitely be a pickup truck. At least Merc & Audi are also doing the same stupid things

It was originally a Chinese market platform, and it sounds like they'll be adapting it and giving it a try in Mexico and maybe here. I'm not crazy about FWD and found plenty to dislike about the underlying mini platform in the current X1, but will hold my breath to see how BMW adapts it to a passenger car as opposed to an SAV.

I was recently blasted in another thread on this forum for pointing out that right now, the base BMW 3 Series remains RWD, while the entry-level cars from Audi and Mercedes (A3 and CLA) are all FWD.

This thread is indeed worthless without pics; however FWD BMWs are also worthless so it all cancels out quite nicely...

Found this info posted here
BMW: Whats's new and What's next. http://flip.it/fXqSE8 2 series: BMW will turn to front- and all-wheel drive for a new four-door variant of the 2-series Gran Coupe coming in the first half of 2020. It will be built on the same platform that underpins the Mini lineup and the smaller non-U.S. 1-series sedan. The Gran Coupe — a four-door with coupelike styling — will be sold globally and is expected to be offered with three- and four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines. In the U.S., a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission is likely to be the only powertrain offered.

This is a review of the new 1 series. As mentioned above it'll be FWD and 4cil, and supposedly made in China. The video is in Spanish, but you'll have an idea if you're really curious about it. |

I'm sure they'll put 10 M's on it and a million people will buy in despite being FWD with a 3 Cylinder engine made in China.
Followed by posts saying 'took the M out on a trip today!' |

The 1 is likely the last BMW I will buy. Then again I'll drive until it doesn't run anymore. But I'd probably get a AWD before I buy a FWD. just sayn.

If I were to get a new BMW, it would be at least an M240i, but I think I'd rather have an M2. Everything else is too big for my tastes. A new Golf R would be a nice change of pace. Fair price, decent power, fun to drive, the right size, looks good (to me), and lots of utility. Test drove one recently and really liked it, especially for the price. I know of at least one person here who has one and doesn't love it. To each their own. Would rather just keep my 135i. Have had it for a long time now and it feels just right to me. Let's see if I can keep up my good luck and stay out of any serious trouble. Been more than 27 years since an accident. *keeping my fingers crossed*
