ORDERED PARTS! and question

Placed a big order with getbmwparts.com but some are on order but on to my question has anyone had any experience running bmw performance yellow springs with vmr v701 (I guess any vmr wheel of the same size) 18x8.5 +45 and 18x9.5 +50 with hankook ventus v12 evos 225/45 and 255/30... I just wanted to make sure I don't have to roll my fenders before I go ahead and install them... Any help is useful also has anyone installed the bmw performance ssk themselves (just want to know if there's anything I need to be mindful of)

Thanks!
Gus

With those offsets you are pretty safe. The et50 rear will have plenty of clearance. Also the BMW yellow springs aren't that considerable of a drop so you shouldn't have any issues.

Thanks! I didn't think I'd have anything to worry about since I had a full car the other day and I wasn't rubbing at all but I remember a VMR rep double checking that I didn't have the sport suspension when I was inquiring about them

+1? The 128 doesn't need the fatter rear rubber due to lesser power, so thankfully we can run a much more balanced square tired setup that handles better and promotes more even tire wear thanks to rotating them. I have a staggered 135 setup, and it handles great don't get me wrong, but theres no need for all the extra rear rubber.

Plus a square setup is more dynamically neutral. Staggered has a bit more understeer.

For the record, 235 square Super Sport setup and no traction issues at all even with all my extra power.

There's no way to shake this, he's absolutely right.

I have a similar setup, VMR 710's 18x8.5 +45 and 18x9.5 +50 with 225/45 and 255/30 tires. I too have parts on order lol, H&R springs, Koni yellows, M3 control arms and rear bushings.. and even though I haven't driven that set up yet, I'm confident it's only going to exaggerate my overreaching understeer thanks to my 255 rears.

They're honestly not a deal breaker and I prefer them on over stock, but I do regret them. Go 235 all around and never look back.

All valid points and I do agree with all of them as I knew this going in but to be completely honest with you I did it for the looks... I may or may not get flamed for it but I think it looks very nice.... Had I known last year that I was seriously going to take the car to autocross and move up to road courses I wouldn't have done it this way... I will however live with my decision and order a set of track wheels (something light and most likely 17 inches) and tires

I'm going to add the obvious question here - why isn't this discussion in the wheels/tires or suspension threads?

Maybe he needs to be more smart than cool and realize this thread is for 128i (N52) ENGINE and DRIVETRAIN modifications, not wheels/tires/suspension. You'll get a lot more feedback that way. There aren't any wheel/tire/suspension posts in the 135i Engine thread. Duh!

i recently ordered a pair of vmr v710. i wanted a square setup and the rep from vmr told me staggered fits and looks much nicer. he said if i change my mind i can change my order as it will be on a huge shipment coming through of both staggered/square. im thinking of keeping square though.

Squared all the way. If the rear or front is too conservative you can just toss spacers up front or in back and get a nice flush looks+ balanced handling+ being able to rotate tires.

Or maybe he is smart enough to realize that his question isn't applicable to 90% of this forum's members, so the general wheel/tire section is useless for him. If you haven't noticed, this is where all the 128i owners chat/hang out.

I'm a 128i owner and I don't "hang out" here. If I have a question or need some info regarding suspension, I go to the chassis/suspension section; same for wheels/tires. In fact, when I was looking to buy new wheels and tires for my 128i a couple years ago, I looked in the wheels/tires section where there's actually some information about wheels and tires that apply to both 128i and 135i. I find your generalization lacking any basis in fact - but hey, whatever floats your boat...or whatever you're driving.

Suspension sure, wheels and tires not at all.

What "fact" are you looking for that is eluding you? Modded 135i owners tend to focus on power upgrades. As a result most of them are looking to get the widest rear tire possible. The other half are looking for what looks the best to bling out their ride. None of that applies to a well set up 128i.

Odd tire size choices. . . any particular reason to have the front tires so tall and the rear tires sooo short?
