Arrow recently moved to Stuttgart...

I recently moved to the Stuttgart area from the US. This weekend I picked up an ’08 135i. I’m really looking forward to hitting some of the twisty roads in the area. My first projects are to fix the non-functioning convertible roof and what I suspect is some turbo wastegate rattle.

Welcome to the area. Do you work on Base at Panzer? There are lots of nice roads in the area there.

Thanks. No, I'm not in the military. We decided to try something different and took a job here. I moved with my wife and kids earlier this year. I'm hoping to learn German by absorbing it through the seat of the car.

Well... there are lots of cool car places in Stuttgart: Porsche & MB Museums... Sinsheim Technik Museum is just up the A81(where it intersects with the A6). And my all time favorite car place is the Motorworld in Böblingen near the MB factory for E & S class cars.

Motorworld...

Awesome!!!! Welcome to Germany and Stuttgart. I live in Dagersheim and work at Patch Barracks. If you have any questions or need any help let me know.

Thanks for the welcome! I've driven by Motorworld and was wondering what it is. In fact, I'm going by it tomorrow to get plates for the 135. Looks like an awesome place!

My car has a BMW Performance exhaust system on it (with cats). Will I get hassled about this when I renew my TÜV? The previous owner did not provide any paperwork for it and it's somewhat loud so I think the inspector will notice it.

On a somewhat related note, is it at all possible to pass inspection with something extreme, like a motorcycle engine in a Smart car?

I loved living in Stuttgart area (Patch/Vaihingen). Nice area to be in. You will enjoy it. Germans can be a little stoic until you get to know them. Maybe because I am American or not good to look at, but that was my experience. Learning some German goes a long way.

My limited experience was that it was extremely difficult to find mechanics who would go out of the box or bend rules to help you pass. With that said, there is a pretty big tuner scene there so people have modified cars. I was just never able to crack the code on it.

Any suggestions for an electrical motor repair shop in the Stuttgart area? I diagnosed a bad motor on my convertible hydraulic drive unit.

I have just moved here in July. Yesterday I picked up my car from the shipping facility. It was beautiful driving home, as always...but this morning when I got in to drive to work at Kelley Barracks, I couldn't steer and its saying "Increased steering effort. Drive moderately. See a car care center." - could really use some words of advice here. Thanks.
