WTB: 128i Manual Coupe
Hello! Looking for a 128i manual coupe. Only deal breakers are N52 (non-sulev) manual, coupe and verifiable southern only/southwestern only history. Strongly prefer under 100k miles, slick top and prefer m sport/at least sport seats. Willing to pay up to $12,000 for the right car (ideally less though) and I am ready to buy!

I have no affiliation with this listing. Just came across it via another FB group. Oops just realized it’s N51 |

by southern/southwestern only I assume you want a totally rust free car. Many here in the NE winter store our cars and are totally rust free and low mileage to boot. My 08 has only 62K miles b/c it's stored for 4-5 months every winter. Of the 1 series I know of in my area 4 of 5 are winter stored and no one is interested in selling at the moment.

Rust is the reason. If a car has some evidence of being stored over the winter I might take a chance but I've been burned before. A car that saw one winter three years ago might have no rust now, but might start to rust in a year or two. Even parking in a garage that didn't have salt adequately cleaned seems to cause corrosion. I realize BMWs of this era have strong rust prevention but once it starts it doesn't take long to get out of control. For me, once rust starts I have a very hard time justifying paying for proper maintenance. Once rust starts it always gets bad, usually fairly quickly, and that means my days with the car are numbered and I try to limit my investment into the car. I plan to never drive this car in the winter but I will most likely keep it for 5 years or so. I want to be able to not think about rust at all, and avoid that cost benefit analysis, during my ownership.

I'm looking at prices as much as I can and I'm certainly willing to entertain an N55 135i as well. Same restrictions as above. I realize I will not get as nice of a 135i and I love the N/A I6 torque curve, but it looks as though I may be able to afford a slightly higher mileage N55 car. If you disagree, disregard this post!

Rust? What's that?
I was fortunate to find one that spent all of its 68,000 miles in Oklahoma. Don't settle for something you don't want--although adding a slicktop into the fray means you're searching for hens' teeth.

Still looking! I'm now thinking the only things I particularly care about are Southern/Southwestern history, manual and slicktop. Higher mileage is ok as long as it's not absurd. I've found a few really good options and only passed because they had sunroofs. Not sure how long I'll keep passing on those cars, but for now I want a slicktop badly.

Atlanta Craigslist: 2008 128 6MT, not sp pkg, 111K miles, owner did huge amt of maintenance work, all the expected stuff. He says TPMS not working-it's a $25 part [which we all know is BS]. However I believe all 08s had sun roofs. $7800.00

Yep, that's exactly one of the ones I passed on, but thank you for the heads up. I didn't know all 08s had sun roofs, that's good to know. That one definitely does. Otherwise I would've gone for it.

Maybe a Sunroof Plug and Headliner replacement (or removal) is in your future?

No great reason other than N52 is more common and in my opinion it’s how these cars were intended to be built by the engineers.
You may be right. It’s definitely something I’m considering, just currently looking at it as a last resort. |

Well I'm 6'1" and just barely fit in my car with a helmut on so suggest you stick with a search for a slick top. Many of us have waited months, even years for the right car. In 09 my wife test drove an 09 135 with auto for $53K. Told her way out of our price range, it was an auto and it was a 135. Two years later I found the perfect 128 [just under 3 yrs old] for $20K in southern Georgia, 1250 miles away. Such a great road trip home.

Something to consider from BMWCCA:
Bad: it's an E90, 4 door sedan 2006 330i 6MT so N52 w/DISA so 260hp blk/blk sport and premium 89K miles original owner "limited use in rain and snow" all records ext = 9/10 int = 10/10 believe it's got no sun roof good non RFT tires (no brand mentioned) Bilsteins $9000 in PA |
