Garage List
Headlight Restoration in Sydney

Hey guys,

I just bought a set of LCI headlights which are quite pitted for my liking.

I am aware of headlight restoration kits which rectify oxidization and yellow headlights.

Has anyone experienced (DIY or a shop) who can restore pitted headlights by wet sanding them back to close to new condition?

I wish BMW sold the clear lens separate instead of buying the entire headlight

Thanks for any input
Steve

I've tackled this on my old car (B5 Audi A4).

I only had a drill and canvas wheel with polishes and some sandpaper. I would not attempt it again without a full set of sandpaper and an orbital buffer. Took ages, looked a lot better, some of the bigger rock chips remained but they were smoothed over and less apparent.

Its not difficult, just takes a really long time to do. To get rock chips out you'll need to go down to 320 grit at least. I found it was difficult getting the sanding marks from the previous grit, i'd recommend getting as many steps of grit of sandpaper as possible to make it less likely to leave sanding marks.

This is an easy DIY bunnings sell abrasive sheets along with SCA then use a rotary buffer with a heavy compound pad and a compound polish finish off with a wax and they'll be gleaming

Yeah my detailer did it before, granted mine wasn't pitted.
