Anybody try the stock rear 135 wheels/tires on the front with a 10mm offset yet? I believe the previous posts concluded that it's mathmatically do-able, but I'd still like to hear from someone that's actually tried it.
Cheers! |

Bump, and here I thought I came up with this idea on my own. I'd love to know if a stock rear with a 10mm spacer would work up front! Anyone try yet? (ie anyone have a 135, 10mm space and 10minutes?)

I guess no one has tried/is interested. Seems like a worthwhile exercise to me, but the spacers I have are 5mm and won't work.

Bump... by now SOMEONE must have tried it.
Better yet, will an 18 x 8.5 with 40mm offset work (with TRACK loads/use) work without spacers? Just returned from Streets of Willow track yesterday in my 135i. My 225/40 RE050A front tires (yes, I said 225... came off a 335i) on OEM 264 wheels were HEAVILY worn on the outsides (43-44 psi hot temp.) after a prof. race car driver drove it HARD. Do you think it was caused by fender rub or just the lack of neg. camber and hard cornering? I'll take/post some pics tomorrow. |

i'm digging this thread from the depths... i tried this about a month ago, and it works. (oem rear wheel up front with 10mm spacrer). the tire is quite close to the strut (i'd say within 4-5mm?). a 255 tire would be even closer, but my guess is that it would fit. (i only tried with the oem rear 245 runflat).
people are running the CSL replicas at 18x8.5 et40... the effective offset of an oem rear wheel with a 10mm spacer is et42, so you'd be 2mm closer to the strut, and have 2mm more fender clearance with a 10mm spacer, or with a 12mm spacer, you'd be exactly where the CSL wheel is. the pictures below are at stock heght/camber. i've since removed the pins and gotten a little more camber. looks like i'll be ordering OEM 261 wheels (4 rears) with 255/35 rubber when the weather warms up, unless one of the big manufacturers gets their sh!t together and makes a good setup for the 1er. |

i did drive it, and was unable to get it to rub. i think the fact that i was at stock height had a lot to do with it. i haven't tried the setup with my newly increased camber, but i imagine it helps a bit. still, at a lower height, 245 or 255 is a lot to ask for out of this car. i think that 245 is totally doable (without rubbing) with an EXACT offset, and a fair amount of camber. for example, if i were sticking with a 245 tire on this wheel, i could probably have pulled off a 8mm spacer, or a 44mm effective offset, which would allow even more fender clearance.

I tried the rears in front with a 10mm spacer, and it did clear OK. I'm at stock ride height, and I don't have an extra set, so I just took it around the block. It was OK, but it's hard to tell if it would really clear once it fully compressed on the outside. I think it would. I've got a little extra camber with the pin removed and such, but not a ton extra. I've also bolted on a set of 17x9's with 255's, and they stick out of the fenders. Again, I drove around the block, and they are OK with that, but I'm sure they would hit once you corner hard. Those were ET45 with a 10mm spacer. A 5mm spacer had the tire rubbing the strut. One day I might try an 8mm spacer, but I really think the 9's with a 255 will need a lot of extra camber to clear. I'd like to get that to work for a set of AutoX tires though.

What is your suspension set up? Did you need that much of a spacer or would 5mm work? Do you need that much camber too?

I would say you don't need -3 with a 10mm spacer; -2.5 might work up front. But you will definitely need 10mm of spacers. 12mm is probably ideal, but then you might need -3 degrees. I'm on KW V3s.

From another thread but YMMV
* 4x 18x8.5 ET52 wheels * 4x 10mm hub-centric spacers up front * Front -1.8 to -2.1 neg. camber * Rear: -1.8 negative camber
