2009 MSport not really an MSport??
I bought a 2009 135i with the supposed M Sport package, but upon further investigation... It doesn't seem like it is???
The car has the shadowline trim and there is an M badge on the steering wheel... but the doorsills say BMW not ///M And there is no anthracite headliner or the 261 style wheels, what gives? |

was the m sport available when the car was built? sounds like the standard sport package, which was the only sport package available in '08 and early '09.

Didn't know they changed to the actual "M" Sport package after mid 09...
Are the Seats at least the same? I can deal with the non-261 wheels, but I really wish I had the anthracite headliner |

Thanks for the help. Any idea how hard it would be to swap out the headliner to the anthracite one? I sat in an M5 and the first thing I noticed was the nice black, suede-ish headliner...
I suspect buying a headliner would be expensive. Why can't BMW just introduce changes at the beginning of a model year, rather than the middle....... |

Oh, and I wouldn't sweat the cosmetic-only differences, gray headliner is fine and the important stuff like seats and suspension are what's important. Enjoy your car!

Right on, I thought it was an alcantra type headliner like those in M5s... Would have been super jealous, lol. Knowing that it is just a color change makes the regular grey more acceptable
Some contrast isn't bad |

Back in 08 and 09 there was only the sport package, as has been said. However, it was often called "M sport" at dealerships because you still got the ///M logo on the steering wheel, on the shifter (if manual), and maybe somewhere else that I'm missing.
Afterwards, the proper M Sport package was added, along with new wheels with the ///M logo and the headliner. The headliner is really just darker, and while I would have liked it, it's not a dealbreaker by any means. Especially since it's not alacantra suede or anything, just "anthracite" colored. The wheels.. well I switched to aftermarket anyway. I'm not really bemoaning the fact that I bought my car in 08 with the "regular" sport package, since the seats and steering wheel are basically the same anyway. Oh well. I still have my "year one of the one" ring thingie which nobody else has. You might have it too if it's a 2009 model year produced during the actual year of 2008 (next year's model year always starts in september with BMW). I find that coolest of all, even though it's just a small touch.

The anthracite headliner is a must in my book, especially if you have black or red leather. The gray headliner just does look right with those colors, plus the anthracite just has a better feel/look to it.

M-Sport was announced late December '08 and went into production sometime around mid January '09. Any '09 made for the US market before that was not M-Sport.
There are only cosmetic differences between Sport and M-Sport, so it's no big deal. |

Yeah, I would also call it a must have with the coral interior. Not sure why people keep saying it's gray... It's about as black as black gets.

+1 this and it feels like any other headliner, probably nylon blend or something.
