DIY mirror assembly replacement e82

Good afternoon folks,

I am writing today in hopes to find some information in regards to fixing my mirror that was smashed off by some punks a few nights ago. In order to get to the mirror assembly on the e82, will the door panels need to come off? Or is there a way I can get behind the tweeter speaker without interfering with the door panels.

If any videos are known in reference to this repair please feel free to drop it!

I purchased a used mirror assembly on eBay from a 2010 e82 and I realized when it came in that the connector for the 2010 mirror is slightly different than the one that came off my 2012 mirror.

I plugged in the wire to power the mirror motor and turned the car over and once this happened my windows did not work nor did my power mirror on my driver side. Once I unplugged the replacement mirror all my electronics resumed back to normal. I resulted in leaving the mirror motor unplugged until I can find a feasible solution.

Anyone know what this could possibly be? I attached some photos the black connector is from the 2012 mirror and the white one is the 2010 replacement mirror.

Odd. The new one has extra pins, implying perhaps that's for a heater or folding function or something that you don't have. Your car won't know it even exists or cares. That leaves the other 3 pins. You'd have to think that they are doing the same things on each mirror... It's also not like you can plug it in wrong.

There's a chance there's an issue with the new mirror? Something the car picked up and isn't happy about. Do you own a multimeter? You might see on both mirrors which pins connect and measure the resistances between them. See if there's a short or something. Maybe a motor is bad somehow?

I've never looked into a mirror. I am guessing there's a motor for up / down, another for left / right? So a wire for each motor plus a common ground? Voltage polarity + / - changing has the motor move the opposing directions? Total guess but maybe one mirror will measure differently than another.

I believe those extra two pins are for the heater function. Is there a way I can bypass this so I don't have to go through the trouble of ordering another mirror and returning this one?

Does your current wiring even have anything to connect to those pins? If not, it's already bypassed. If yes, then - see if you can pull them out of the clip. You could cut them as well but I'm of the opinion to make things reversible when possible.

Can I use a inpa or a protool to clear any errors that may be occurring with the new mirror?
