I knew it would fit. And if it didn't, I planned to return it. Note: this thing has an adhesive ring around the outer circumference to keep it seated and maybe keep sludge out of the inner spider/crystal meth hiding repository |

"Those won't fit" "uh yes they will" "No they won't" Okay then... Also fixed my turns to lock issue. The inner rack thing was way off center.

Yeah, some dealers parts depts are not much better, if at all, than a random parts monkey working at Advanced or AutoZone etc... these posers make rockauto a ton of money...
On the other hand, once in a blue moon you find a parts person that's evolved into an actual enthusiast who may not only get what you're doing, but may even have a few great suggestions too... when you find one, treat them like gold!

Okay general suspension question here, I got the rear knuckles with hubs off a 335i. What is the best type of puller to use to get the hubs off? My slide hammer isn't doing shit to these. Bearing separator?
obs the slide hammer only works while hub was on the car.

Temporarily banished my poor 1 series to street parking and gave it's spot to an electric mini cooper
Hoping to find time to reconfigure the garage tonight to fit all 3 cars.

. . . just install a lift and park the mini under the 1-series
or hang the Mini on the wall |

Another question for anyone or Suprgnat. Okay now I have an issue with my steering and I'm pissed. I had centered my rack yesterday. My process was like this: Jacked car up, detached the steering shaft first(wheel initially centered of course), then undid the tie-rods, centered the rack. Essentially 45mm was poking out from each end of the rack. Re-attched tie rods, and I swear I did not tug either over the knuckles. I had them both neatly slide into their mounts and then I remeasured and everything was fine. Reconnected steering shaft, which now was askew by 70 degree clockwise. Tested the lock to lock which then was 1.25 each way. (steering wheel being off though) Got the alignment checked out again and coming home I'm right back to 1 turn one way, 1.5 the other. Suprgnat I had talked to my alignment guy (Firestone) and they said to disconnect the steering shaft. You said you centered and locked it. I swear I could see that my lil black tab was lined up correctly and matched your pic as best I could. As far as I could tell I would have had to move my steering wheel/shaft in order to fit over the keyway correctly. For the record I have the M3 steering shaft too. I'm going through the E90Post M3 rack swap thread for more info to try and figure this out. Unfortunately I'm a noob to rack swap stuff...but have done tie-rods before

Also for anyone; when you lock the wheel, are you just using the lock bar on a stand thing? Or is there some other way this is done?

There's fortunately plenty of room, just need to move the workbench out from behind the truck so it can be backed up to the wall.

I used the ever so high tech version to hold the wheel-
Windows down 2x4 through the Windows Pair of wood clamps -center the wheel -clamp the 2x4 to the wheel Presto, the wheel is locked in place. You may want to start by double checking the rack is centered, then the tie rod ends Depending on just how borked it is, you may well end up disconnecting the rack from the steering shaft so you can center the rack I think...

Rack fixed and everything is good now. I was under the impression if I had the M3 shaft too all would line up nicely. WRONG! gotta pop the little key piece off the pinon. Mine didn't have the bigger plastic tab key as seen in the rack swap threads, but a lil one.

Generally yes, and it did for the first 25 years of its life with the previous owner in Southern California. Here, between New England winters and the fact I only have street parking (besides the garage), even my extensive rustproofing can't fend off sideswipes and catalytic converter thieves.
It also has about half the miles of my 1 series and is worth about 3-4x as much Anyway, I spent most of the day reorganizing the garage so the 128 can come back inside. There is a wall shelf behind the mini that I plan to move so I can get it closer to the left side, then the 1 would be less smushed.
