On the M3 the 19inch are a few seconds per lap faster (on the Ring), I guess this will be the same for the 1M. BMW would have saved money if it would have delivered it standard with 18", so I guess there is a reason behind

Anyone have all iterations of the M3 ring times just for comparisons? Excluding the NA E36 M3 of course.

Whether the 8:12 is the SportAuto time or not is quite important. I'd also really like to know which tires were used for that laptime? Anyone?

I found this interesting 'Ring test over on the German e46 forum. It is quite old, from Oct 7th, 2008.
http://www.e46fanatics.de/test-und-f...sind-drin.html Post #10. BMW Performance 135i vs Porsche Cayman S What is most interesting is that the 135i was tested with ALL the Performance goodies, even the PPK (performance power kit!) plus all of the CF stuff. BMW Performance 135i 'Ring time = 8:39.2 Porsche Cayman S 'Ring time = 8:31.9 Dackel |

Good shit. I am looking at a CaymanS but if I can get my hands on a GT-R (2nd gen) for mid 40s in couple years I may just wait.

It's very good considering the price of the car but not all that impressive for BMW considering they had achieved this time 4 years ago with Z4M.
Unfortunately I don't think they are all that interested in making an all-out small sports car. Only the M3 and M5/M6 get any real development, just like with the Z4M this is a parts bin M car. Even worse really because even that car got the M3's engine. They probably don't think they can sell them for the price they would charge... maybe they're right. Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream. - Jeremy Clarkson, discussing the S65 and then S55 M3 engines. |

You guys know what all of this proves to a "layman", such as myself? That only Porsches and GTRs that are worthy. All these 1M's and iS's - even the coveted E92 M3! - all cruisers, not bruisers. I'd love an E92 M3 - don't get me wrong. But I would not dare to compare it to THE best cars out there. It is better than just about everything else, but not better than Porsches and GTRs. And that's the simple truth.
And as much as I was anticipating the 1M, I'm very disappointed that BMW went ahead and "gay'efied" this car too. Namely, shorted it on the power, did not offer DCT, etc. Oh, and this is probably a stupid question to most of you guys, who know specs by heart, but does it even come with an LSD?

Why would you compare a 1M with Porsches or a Nissan GTR???? They are in a completely different price range. A ferrari 458 is also faster then a 1M And a GTR is maybe relative cheap to buy, but wait until you see the maintenance cost and fuel consumption. After every trackvisit you have to change the gearbox oil, otherwise you loose your warranty. (this is how it works in Europe at least) They also eliminated the launch control because the gearbox could not handle it. A set of tires of the GTR , and it overheats quite quickly. During the wintertire test of German magazine the GTR overheated. A guy I know who drove the GTR on the Ring managed 4 laps on a full tank only... (not even 100km on he sold it as he said he was spending more time fueling then driving. Do not understand me wrong, I love the GTR (new and old ones) and it think it is a fantastic piece of engineering. But I think the comparison to a 1M not correct. I don't know if they will make a Competion package on the 1M ? If it yes I bet they will make it after release the new M3 Motor. In this case a 360hp 1M will be great .

And the EVO also has wider, lighter, and better tires. Not to mention an AWD system that comes second to no other car. You are comparing two totally different machine's. The EVO will out perform a lot of more powerful and expensive cars. That was Mitsu's purpose of making it. You are not too bright. The EVO is way ahead of the 1Min every major performance category except maybe HP and torque. And for the price, EVO > 1M.
