Wow, the lack of folding seats is killing me. This is going to be my daily driver and having a store, I'll need to haul boxes frequently (not to mention skis and bikes) I simply don't understand this decision from BMW. My dealer told me confidently that it would be getting this option.

According to realoem.com the latch hardware for folding seats is about $200. This seems to be one of the first "mods" to consider.

Did you actually engage M mode in the e9X M3? Did try the 2011.5 with competition package?

Glad you like your 1M!!!

I'd haul my winter wheel setup (yes, all 4 wheels & tires) in my 135 to my local wheel shop. Without the fold downs I'm going to have to make two trips now. Futhermore, I'd use the split downs at least twice a month. This will be a bit of an inconvenience for sure.

yea I definitely need the rear folding seats to fit my hockey stick. I should be picking up my BSM tomorrow. if it doesn't have the latches, we should organize a group buy! looks as if it can be retro-fitted.

If this is not an easy retrofit I am going to cancel. I used the folding seats in all the three series over the last decade plus and with the smaller car they would be even more essential. Also just moved from the burbs to the city and use the universal remote for the first time and I do not want to give that up either.

This truly stinks as I have been looking forward to a M version 1 series since it came on the scene and now with the car here and kids in college BMW has missed on a couple of the simplest things. They should have done a bit of market research. When I saw the specs I thought nah, they must have missed typing that in. I am going to be truly disappointed if this proves to be tough to correct. GJ

Wow, just wow BMW. Way to be a bunch of cheap @$$holes. Did they really expect their customers (especially many of whom are coming from loaded 1s and 3s) to really be okay with the lack of split folding rear seats and homelink?

So, BMW, if you're listening, stop being jerkoffs. I would make sure you get BOTH of these things (well, the homelink can be included in the premium package) back on the 1M before you lose some customers, myself included.

The 1M HAS folding rear seats in the 60/40 configuration. The releases are in the trunk closer to the rear of the car. If mine wasn't on a boat I would take a picture.

To the OP take a picture of the open trunk from further back. The car at the Detroit show and at the Toronto show both had it.

And the black 1M Euro delivery also from your neck of the woods had split folding seats. He talked about how essential it was for their travels there after delivery. I "was" feeling ok. I think it is fair to say I've been a loyal BMW guy but this is really under my skin. I hope their marketing folks read these posts. . . .

I might have to learn to pronounce 'Porsche'.

That would be a great idea. I definitely need fold down rear seats as well. That sucks if it doesn't have them. The car at the NYC auto show had them... if they can put it in a test mule then they can put it in a production car. Maybe they just forgot the OP's because he has the first one. Jk lol.

Congrats on the car OP!

At first read it seems like the omission of the Folding Rear Seat and the Homelink are small issues. But after using both since 07 on my 335i I must say it is a Very big deal to leave these two options out of this car.

How much money can BMW be saving by leaving these two off the cars, especially the Folding Rear Seats on just the US cars? What are they thinking????

I just sent a Priority E-Mail to BMWNA to ask about these missing items, will see if I get a response back. I would encourage all who care about these issues to contact BMWNA as well.

Thanks for the writeup, car looks great. I ordered one in AW too so i'm a little biased.

Wonder why bmw would provide seats that CAN fold down, but won't because it lacks some simple hardware. Maybe because they would have to go through more testing and certification if they wanted the seats to fold?

Hopefully this is a easy fix.

And no homelink button? Going from a 135, I didn't think this car would be a step backwards in terms of features.

Oh well, the smile on my face when driving will make the lack of these features irrelevant.

As long as it doesn't have gray headliner i'm happy

enjoy your new 1er OP
