943 HPFP going in.
Had some limp modes over the last few days and the dreaded HPFP codes accompanied them. Took it in today and they verified they are replacing it with a 943. Here's hoping it lasts!
A little history: -1200 miles - First HPFP fails after many long cranks -Switched over to 93 oct gas that contains NO ethanol (Due to seemingly debunked concerns that ethanol was causing failures) -No problems up until recently -11,400 miles - Limp modes while driving, appointment to replace pump set up. Since I've gone through 2 pumps in about 10,000 miles, I will be interested to see how this one lasts. |

I just set a new personal-record with my 943+software. 4,400 miles on my first pump (9/2010 build) and now 4,500 additional miles on my new pump (still going strong)! I know, not the same as a 1/4 mile PR, but still...
Has me thinking I might be good for a Procede+Intercooler+Quaife. |

He pointed me to my loaner this morning, a silver 328xi coupe and asked me if it was alright. I asked him why he didn't give me the M3 loaner...he just kinda laughed that one off.
The 328xi isn't slow in the scheme of things, but man, I REALLY can't wait to get my car back tomorrow. |

haha I had the same car as well. 328xi. Brand new (1,000mi) and after I figured out how to get it into sport mode it was much easier to drive. Not bad at all. I got the 943 as well but have found the idle to be very rough on cold starts. Anyone notice anything similar?

I'll make note of any differences in the car when I get it back. I'm not actually sure if they did anything on the software side though. On a side note, I brought the car in this morning and it was essentially done by the end of the day even with a PUMA case being opened. Last time I had the HPFP replaced at about 1200 miles it took 3 days to do the same thing. |

so....JUST got the car back with the new 943 pump and software. Didn't even make it home and went into limp mode under LIGHT acceleration. Pulled off to the side of the road and restarted the car. After the restart I pulled away and gave it some gas and it was the worst power cut out that I had ever experienced, it was some pretty violent bucking.
This sucks. |

Also, I think if this is your 3rd pump it would put you into lemon territory.

Please confirm that it is #943 but not #933. It sucks and it means BMW had not figured out a permanet solution yet:-(:-(:-(

And yes, it was indeed the 943 pump, I'm looking at the invoice right now. We can HOPE that something was installed incorrectly. When I took it back I asked if they had put new software on it. He said they had, and then went on to say that even though it's a 135i that they put 3 series software in it...I'm thinking that CANNOT be right. Well, I guess for now I'll just sit tight and hope that this gets sorted out shortly. Funny thing is when I picked it up I said that if the law of averages holds up, I'll be back in about 6000 miles for another pump. Service manager said "naaah, this is THE fix". Yea I've hear that before....GAH! |

when this shit happened to me for the 3rd week in a row i told the service advisor i would not take the car home till he took it home for 2 nights and it ran perfect before he gives it back to me. it alway's seems to run right at the dealer then all hell breaks loose the next morning...lo and behold it shit on the service advisor the next morning and they replaced the HPFP, plugs and moved the injectors around..the next day it ran perfect and on started on the 1st crank...4 months later it's been perfect......but this is the 2nd #943 pump in 2 days that has failed...hopefully it is something else...
I just do not get it...why is this such a difficult thing to fix??? Here is BMW coming out with the M1 and they can not get this shit right... |

Anyway, the fact that they are failing SO quickly leads me to believe that it's got to be an install issue of some kind. Or maybe it has something to do with putting 335i software on a 1 series. Sounds like my dealer will be in contact with the engineers to come up with a solution. Perhaps this is grounds to demand an M3 loaner! |

I wouldn't argue that it is a good diagnostic procedure to point them in the right direction, but it is not a solution. Even if after the switching injectors everything runs fine it still does not address the root cause of the original problem.

Whew! They replaced that on mine along with the pump. Seems that they should go hand in hand.

Well I believe they did replace it when the put the 943 in, but it was bad, just terrible luck I guess. Although I'm still wondering how if they test drove it (which they said they did) that they didn't have any problems. So for anyone out there who has a pump replaced and an immediate failure, make you you have them check out the sensor!
Oh well, I'm just happy that I can hold out hope that the pump is good and I can get back to enjoying the car. |

Well, I picked up the car today. They left the 943 in and replaced the sensor. Car runs great now, seems to be a little quicker than before.
I also received the new software, and I have noticed no Ill effects from it. |
