alignment - only at dealer?
Went to three tire shops to get an alignment for a 09 135i and none of them had the alignment data on the shops computer. Does this mean I can only get an alignment via a BMW dealer?
I didn't ask if they had 08 data. Is it one and the same? Does anyone have the specs for front and rear? Would appreciate any help you can offer.

If someone knows more about it chime in but like you I could not get an alignment at my local tire shop. They said the alignment requires a special tool/fixture to compress the springs which they did not have. I have taken mine to the dealer but wonder if any mechanic shops that specialize in German cars can do it. Most likely would be half the cost of the dealer.

Honestly, I would just have it done at a dealer. Better safe than sorry. That is unless you're loading the car up with all kindsa aftermarket shit like coilovers, camber plates yada yada which in that case a known shop with experience with these cars would be best, cuz I dunno how many alignments dealers do with cars with aftermarket suspensions?

My dealer wanted to charge me $300 for an alignment. Needless to say, I kindly refused.
The Big-O-Tires near my house has the hunter roadforce alignment machine and it only costs like $90 to do there. I haven't asked them if they're able to do BMWs though. |

Any reputable alignement shop should be able to align your 1-Series without a problem. I would check a few other places before going to the dealer.

I agree, I only went to the dealer because I needed it that day (track event in the morning and it was 4pm on a friday) and it cost me $120.

Only reason I said that is cuz i tried two corporate shops specifically monro and NTB and both said they did not have the "proper tools" yada yada to do the alignment for this specific car. The shop I have my mods installed at does not do alignments so I need one that does other than the dealership, believe they charged me $120 for mine.

I didn't think it would be that hard to get an alignment. $300 is a blatant rip.
My local Kmart Tyre and Auto Service was able to do mine for AUD$69

It happens that I do have the active steering but 5 different shops confirmed they did not have the data in their alignment machines even for a regular non active steering set-ups. I HAD to go to the dealer 189 bucks. They said it takes 1-2 hours.
