Affordable suspension kit battle

Bilstein B12 Pro-Kit vs Koni STR.T Damper Set & Springs vs H&R Touring Cup Suspension kit vs H&R Sport Cup Suspension Kit vs Koni FSD Damper Set vs ST X Coil-Over

http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/S...=Sport+Package

Currently drive 09 128i sport package

Which kit is the best out of all of these for the budget minded tuner not for track use.

Winner: Bilstein B12 Pro/Sportline Kit

B12. Everyone seems to be very satisfied with it + it's a great bang for the buck.

+1 I would have to agree. Damm... the kit is only $770 for Bilsteins and springs. That's a hard deal to pass up.

http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/s...=Sport+Package

I would also suggest to get the DINAN rear shock mounts. They will give you slightly MORE rear shock travel and get rid of the soft rear mounts that are most likely shot by ~70K miles.

+1

if it sits anything like Koni Strt's HR springs, than its a very good drop for a 128i

I run this exact setup on my 135i along with the M3 rear sub frame bushings and absolutely love it for a summertime DD.

How does the B12 hold up to track abuse and corrosion where the car is exposed to Winter road grime?

Bilstein products are very well made. Normally their shocks outlast the car.

+1, for the price and improvement all around that you get, this is a no brainer for any aftermarket suspension setup.

There's also the BMW Performance Suspension: http://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/11...NCE-SUSPENSION (shocks, springs and front sway bar)

I ordered it from the BMW USA website a few days ago for $1,142 (note you have to enter your car details and local BMW center via ZIP code to get the correct price, which is lower than the 'list' price when you first land on the page).

I went with that option based on David Haueter's review in Bimmer Magazine: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...8#post16478778

Karl.

Not trying to convince you otherwise, that's your decision.

But what you're paying for is a complete set of components carefully matched by professional suspension engineers. Putting together a suspension package based on one person liking these springs and another liking those shocks, etc. is a risky strategy.

It may be too expensive for you, but it could be well worth it to someone else.
