You already have a crossover in the resonator - You can replace that with an ex pipe and go dual all the way back into a dual inlet muffler.

I forget the exact details but it's been tested that the stock location for the Y-pipe going into the resonator is ideal.

Without getting too technical about it, an X and Y pipe (like in your stock resonator) are functionally the same.
You would only do an X pipe if you want a ‘true dual’ exhaust, otherwise if you are going to upgrade, do a higher performance Y pipe and be done with it.

In terms of where to place the resonators, the dont inhibit flow too much (if at all) but typically you want to do it after the merger.
