Do you want to see a new badass wheel for the 1er?
My 1-series track crew -- if you haven't seen me around here, or followed along on my build thread then feel free to do so. Otherwise, summary is: I mostly care about track performance / road racing.
With the 1er being a small market, we haven't had the most options for specific wheel fitments, especially super light, strong, forged, and good looking. I'm curious how many of you feel this and would be interested in seeing a new option. I've been talking to Titan7, who have recently launched their line of forged, lightweight, track-spec wheels for specific platforms that we often see on track: M3, S2K, Evo, FRS/BRZ, etc... I hit them up to gauge interest in building some for us. If there's interest, meaning 5 or more people, we could probably do a small batch. Details: FORGED and strong AF >18lbs a piece Massive clearance for even the biggest brake kits Price would be between $1780-$1840 for the set. There are a lot of conservative fitments and trends on this platform, but I prefer to run more on the aggressive side, with wide wheels and tires for maximum grip. I also run plenty of camber and a track alignment. I don't think this setup will be for everyone, but that's why I'm posting it in the track section. You could either run a square setup with the front fitment, or staggered. Front: 18x9 +40 (I can confirm this fits with a 255/35/18 Nexen Sur4G, -3* camber, KW coilovers with 7" spring) You can easily run this out back as well for a square setup.) Rear: 18x9.5 +5x (I know APEX does +58, but that looks pretty conservative and I've heard some inboard clearance issues arise with wide tires and lots of camber. I'd like to test fit these out back to see where we should go. Guessing somewhere around +50-55) For me, the goal is to run this setup with 265 front, 275 rear. More conservatively, you could run 255 front, 265 rear. What wheel design would you prefer and how many of you would be willing to go for this? Genuinely care about this platform and am hoping to help create some new life for it. Wheels are just phase one of my plans. For reference, here is my car running 18x9 +42 squared. 3mm spacer up front is just for piece of mind, but they actually clear without. Front offset is now effective +39. Tires are 255/35/18 Nexen Sur4G, which run super wider and are closer to most 265s.

Very interested if they could do a 10.5 inch variant...

They already offer plenty of big sizes. This thread is geared toward 1er non-M, non widebody. Stock body, max effort.

I dig the style on the right, but for me, small batch wheels that aren't readily available don't make a good choice for a track wheel.
Wheels are a wear item for track work, one starts to get cracks, or bend one on a curb, you can't easily replace it. |

Logical insight, however, small batch doesn't mean they will never have replacements. Example: 5 people commit to buy, 5 sets-only aren't made. And once they're built, they can easily be built again. I brought this up to Titan 7 in our initial discussion and they've assured me it's nothing to worry about. The goal here is to gauge interest and see if it could actually happen.

I like the idea but we could just run the Apex 18x9 et42 up front and 18x9.5 et58 (5mm spacer) in the rear.
I actually copied you and run 18x9 et42 square now. I just love the square setup and we're pretty much capped at 9in up front.

Sure. We could do that. I'd like other options. I'd like stronger options, too. 2 of my APEX's are already bent and I've barely used them. And I'd like better looking options. I am going to run the 9.5" rear now actually, and keep the 9 up front.

Just a suggestion, Tire rack has Kosei 17x9's, for like 150 each. I have not had Apex wheels, (which I believe are made by Kosei) but have mounted many tires on them, and I have actually seen BRAND NEW out of the box wheels with 1/8 inch runout. Apex was contacted and said it was normal. (It's not at all in any way) I have had 1 set of K1's that are still in use 8 years alter, and two sets of K9R's that are so far still straight after two years. IMO, Kosei>Apex

Even something like the 6UL from 949 isn't always available and they've sold thousands of sets. Even APEX right now, the current 18x8.5 up front (if you don't look at the Group Buy) says availability is 30-60 days out. With my negativity aside, more options is always a good thing! |

I totally hear your concerns though, and they're valid. Wouldn't stop me from going for them though, I'd probably just buy 6 to be safe.

I could be interested in a new option, the Apex styles are getting a bit played out. Do we know how true the claims are that Apex rims are actually produced by Kosei?

Just out of curiosity, has anyone looked at weld wheels? Forged or billet, I can’t remember exactly, but in that price range, and available anytime, as they are always custom.

Yeah, but they are sweet.
The welds though are ~6-700 each. Just posted so that if someone was looking for forged track wheels, and wanted to be able to get replacements. |

Down to $139 a wheel. Damn. I have no idea about brake fitment for 135's, but this is the go to size for 128's. |

There is no need for this product. Between Forgestar custom wheels and off the shelf Koseis and Apexes (depending on whether you want 17s or 18s) the market is served.
