1M prices

http://www.carsales.com.au/private/d...-2774730/?Cr=0

Can't believe this guy is still asking $130,000. Dreamin'. People can be so delusional!

I love my 1M, but it's a niche car that appeals to a small group of enthusiasts. BMW got greedy when they discovered that Australians would actually pay $110k for the car . . . they boosted the Aussie allocation from 100 cars to 300 cars, which was probably about 50 more than Australia's "natural demand". Canada is a good benchmark: they got 220 cars for a larger population of 35 million.

So in the UK (450 cars) and the US (740 cars) the 1M is now viewed as collectible and examples sell for more than the original list price. Meanwhile here we have a permanent oversupply of cars trying to find a home . . . . there are usually 10-12 on carsales.

What is the "clearing price" that most Aussie 1Ms actually sell for right now? My guess would be about $75k.

I think it's lower than that, there's one with <10k on the clock asking $77k and its been sitting for ages.

Yeah, you're probably right. Maybe $70k-$75k with a bit of variance between states depending on what's available in each market. Most people don't want the hassle of buying an interstate car, so each state is a "micro market".

Would the car price drop considering the m2 is about to launch in the sense that people will get to know how much the drive away prices are? Apparently I have been told by bmw that the car is going to be pretty much full option.

What would the 1M price be now for something like under >20k or even >10k on the clock because the price difference between the two mileage is a lot.

I'm sure there will be a few 1M owners trading in for a M2 especially as they would be coming off a 4 year lease around this time and in the future.

It would be nice to know what the typical bmw trade in price would be (of course it would depend on mileage, condition, amount of options ordered on the new M2) but say BMW were to offer $70k trade in typically most owners would be hoping for say $72-75k private sale. Of course they may list it firstly at $80k, then as the trade in date gets closer the seller will start to drop his price in a desperate attempt to sell for anything above the hypothetical trade in price of $70k.

The key would be to try and buy just before there trade in is due so you can get it for a great price, and the seller makes a little bit of profit over his bmw trade price...

BMW won't give anything near $70k. I had a friend that used to work at BMW North Shore and they used to trade them at around $80k when 1M's were still going for over $100k+.

What would be a fair price to pay now for a 2012 with under 20k mileage ? Seeing that Marty recent got $83k for 10k mileage with premium selection ! Maybe around $80k before drive away ?

Mine had 9200km

The problem is there is too many of them for sale and they all want too much money
and they are going to sit there until they get desperate.

I don't think the m2 is going to devalue low km 1M's but it surly will the higher ones.

There was one that sold for 66k with 61000km, now that's right on the money.

They are worth around 75 to 80 k with >20000k

Once the km start going up the prices drop dramatically but these people think they
can make money on them. Good luck.

In the scenario above it was just a hypothetical value, but it would be nice to know what they're trading for nowadays!

Nice pickup Marty. Yep agree on prices I just paid 77500 on road for my fully optioned AW 2012 with 34K on it. Quite rare to find a fully optioned example, oddly, few had comfort access and even fewer have heated seats.

I don't understand why would people not want comfort access on a luxury car ?

That's some of the criteria that I must have!!

My 1M had all the options bar ski bag, and was immaculate, as you all know, with 26k kms and 2 years warranty remaining..
Best trade in I got was $65,200 from a Chrysler dealer on a jeep SRT..

In in the end sold privately..

I think trade in would be in the mid $50's now for a car like mine, BSM with 38k kms.

If I could get $65k-$70k i'd be happy. They don't seem to move quickly in the private market but once one comes up at a BMW dealer it sells quick.

I don't see M2's having a big effect as they will be well north of $100k on road.

Pretty sure it was on the market in NSW a few months ago asking in the 90s. Don't know if it sold to someone in Vic and now is for sale again or if the owner just moved to Vic. Still has NSW plates

Yes the owner is from nsw but the new owner is in VIC but still having nsw plates. So technically he would have bought it for roughly $85k? But I'm not digging the stripes
