BMW Extended Warranty vs 3rd Party

Does anyone know why the dealerships push the 3rd party extended warranty over the BMW extended warranty? I've spoken with two different dealerships and the finance guys seemed to be pushing me in the direction of the 3rd party by saying it offers more coverage options. I'm trying to see if there is validity to what's being said or is it extra commission that's an incentive for them.

X-Tra Commission. They are really selling you an insurance policy and as such they profit from it.

I got the same stichk from my SA and pulled the trigger on a third-party warranty (Fidelity). So far I've used it to replace a window regulator that would have been a few hundred bucks had I paid out of pocket.

Is this slick or what. I've been reading thru the NOT COVERED portion info and it seems that they, BMW, has a loop hole. It says that "Damage to any covered part or component caused by the failure of a non-covered component." With me being a not too super savvy tech guy, I may have no idea why a part may have failed so I'm at the mercy of the tech to tell me. Thus, the judge to tell me whether I pay or don't pay since I don't know any better. So the items covered could be uncovered. Gotta love the fine print.

Gotta get all CSI when something happens. Not what I call peace of mind

I have a Zurich warranty I negotiated down. Had it on an old 4runner and it worked well. Debating though on mods whether I should keep the 3rd party or not

FYI:I paid 1500 for 3 year bumper to bumper after negotiating.

Because they make more money on them.

Being in the business, I would avoid third party warranties like the plague.

My warranty is up in September and have been looking into 3rd party ones. I heard EasyCare is pretty good. This might be a dumb question but say I go with EasyCare warranty, I can still go to my local bmw dealer to get the work done correct ?

Is there anyone that has benefitted from the 3rd party warranty or is there a bunch of loopholes like...the non covered part affected the covered part so therefore the covered part is now not covered?

Had this happen to a friend of mine with a third party warranty. The sunroof motor broke and jammed the roof in the open position. They found a bolt had backed out of the motor and allowed it to spin and jam into the rails. They denied the claim because "fasteners" are not covered. Took three weeks of complaints, emails and phone calls, calls to the BBB and the dealership owner before they agreed to cover it. And even then, they installed a used sunroof assembly to fix it.

Here at the Acura dealer, when cars have the OEM extended warranty, we treat it just like the normal warranty. It is up to the tech to order and replace whatever he feels necessary.

Any time I have to deal with a third party warranty, they send down an adjuster who tries to find any loophole to deny the claim, and nickles and dimes the repair to make it as cheap as possible.

BMW offers a gold plan, if you under4 yr /50k , get it , it covers major components .
Always go with a manufacturer backed warranty , so far Lexus, Cady, Audi and BMW are doing decent CPO's 6yr/100k. Mercedes will only give you 1 yr on top your factory

I'm in same boat with warranty expiring. Currently have 33K miles.

I was quoted $2900 for an additional 5yrs/100K with Zero deductible. (Only good for parts that brake/fail) I asked to ensure only OEM BMW prts will be used, answer is Yes.

A seperate warranty of $2200 for regular/routine maintenance...only covers 2 additional yrs from now.

My car has been solid but this 135i/N54 has brought so many issues to others that maybe I've just been lucky and all the probs are about to hit. But $2900 worth of problems??? How easily can that many probs rack up? Decisions Decisions.

Give more info. That seems like a good deal...the BMW platinum is the top coverage right/with everything included (Mechanical/electrical)?? What do you mean by bundled? - to add a maintenance pckg seperate?

Bundled with my financing. If I had signed the financing and taken delivery of the new car and then decided to add the extended warranty later it would have been at least $3k. Yes, platinum covers mechanical and electrical. There are plenty of comparo pdfs on bmw's website for the different plans. I wanted something that would cover my CA and Nav.

This!

Heard too many horror stories like this, even directly from a friendly BMW Service Advisor!!!

Better stick with OEM warranty - they are not too expensive, and there is no $50 deductible like on a Certifed Pre-Owned car.

Getting a $4000CAD A/C Evap replacement job done under warranty as I type this. Spoke to a 2009 BMW 335i owner who go his two N54 turbos replaced at his dealer for $6000CAD. His warranty had justed ended, but the dealer picked up half of the bill out of good will.

If I decide to keep my 2011 135i past its base warranty, I will be buying the OEM extedend warranty. It is worth $2000-$3000 CAD based on 2 or 3 year and additional mileage coverage you want ...

Yes. Why?

Just got an offer from BMW Canada, good until Dec 31, 2013.
Rebate of $450 on a 2 year/160,000Kms (100,000 Miles) extended warranty.

Total is $2000CAD taxes inc., for full coverage of my 2011 135i until May 2017.

Might pull the trigger, even if I dont keep the car that long, to add value and appeal to the car when/if I sell.
