What fuel would I use in Canada?

My 128i is a Canada spec car(speedo ONLY in km/h) and the fuel door says min 91 octane so I'm always putting in premium to match that. But I've heard that German and Canada octane ratings can differ so I'm wondering what the actual number on the fuel door would equal in Canada.

I believe that is converted to the gas we use here. Personally i found i had some issues running 91 (valve ticking, misfire issues, etc) so if its in your area I run Petro's Ultra 94.

Shell V-Power Nitro+

As stated on Shell Canada FAQ page:

"9. What is the nature of the new BMW relationship and why do they endorse Shell V-Power NiTRO+?*

In 2015, Shell and BMW announced an exciting new relationship. In its endorsement, BMW recommends that Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Premium Gasoline for the BMW M class vehicle to get the best performance out of their vehicle. Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Premium Gasoline is the only premium fuel recommended by BMW M."

Isn't Petro 94 just 91 with octane boost?(asking because my mode 6 says there are 1 or 2 misfires in last 10 driving cycles on 3 cylinders and only 1 petro has 94.) And I'm pretty broke for the next 2 weeks, would it be detrimental if I put in regular(87). My dad uses regular in his 14' 320i (I4 turbo) and his excuse is "it has knock inhibitors."

BTW, mine is a 2010

As for 94 i don't believe so. Personally i would never put 87 in the car, id say stick to the minimum of 91, if you really have too 89, but don't push the car then. I tended to have misfires on 91 even so be prepared that might happen if you go lower.

Alright, sounds good, thank you.

PS. I love the body on your 82. Mind if I see more of it and know what kit it is?

I ran 87 (US scale) until I got tuned. Car ran fine, felt like it had less power, but never misfired or ran poorly. Now I run 93 since I'm tuned...

Costco (Top Tier brand) 90% of the time. Exxon/7-11 if it's critical. Sunoco E0 gas at the track

You have a Canadian car, it is labelled for Canadian use. Use 91 minimum.

for the record, germany doesn't have higher octane gas; they use a different rating system altogether.

as for your question, i've ran shell 91 nitro-whatever-PR-speak since i bought my 128i and had no issues (apart from a hole in my wallet).

Ouch...

Shell is a rip-off, at least in my area.

it isn't as expensive as any other company's 91 octane fuel in canada (and to be fair, irving 91 octane fuel makes my car knock when i tack it to redline)

Running the 87 effectively lowered your compression ratio.

Shell 91 has no ethanol here either. I believe most stations 94 has up to 15% ethanol, but i may be wrong.

Thankfully pure gasoline (no ethanol) is still available in Canada. Only Shell 91 and Esso 91. All others have ethanol. Shell 91 is always my first choice.
