Do we have the right to know what Putin and Trump discussed?

Do we, as American citizens, have the right to know what Putin and Trump discussed behind closed doors in Finland?

Jean Shaheen seems to think so:

Quote:
Iím calling for a hearing with the U.S. interpreter who was present during President Trumpís meeting with Putin to uncover what they discussed privately. This interpreter can help determine what @POTUS shared/promised Putin on our behalf.
Vote and discuss!

These seem to be special circumstances with the ongoing investigation and I believe the interpreter who works for the US Government should be subpoenaed.

Which is why Shaheen wants to bring the American interpreter in for a little chat.

I don't think it is a right as such. It would be nice but why would we have a right to know? Just curious.

For you, my Russian friend, there is no purpose. The question was whether Americans have the right to this information. Feel free to ask Putin for his version of the meeting if you like.

I dont know, that's why I posed the question. The left leaning media sources are melting down with interviews and talking heads demanding the information be made public. My knee-jerk reaction was "Yes, we need that information", but then I realized that we dont have access to all sorts of information like classified intelligence, military plans, etc., and I'm totally OK with that. I wish I could change my poll vote to Option 3 as I do think it's important that whatever was agreed to is documented, understood, and discussed with at a minimum some congressional committee.

The bigger question is, are we still a representative republic? If the answer is yes, then Trump has to tell us, as his constituents, what was discussed. The guy trump isn't a dictator or a king.

I just assumed - is it possible such strange voting on any Russian forum?
Why choose such a president, to whom there is no trust?

I voted sort of. I do believe leaders/government need to keep certain things secret for many obvious reasons.

But, in the context of Trump it is interesting that he wants alone time with Putin every time they meet. Considering all that is obviously going on it doesn't look good to say the least. It would be nice if there some other officials in the room as well.

Trump also has a habit of calling leaders without his staff knowing about and circumventing the official record keeping process. Also not good in a general way. Not to mention not the most secure way of conducting business. Unsecured emails anyone???

I'd love to know what goes on behind the political closed doors but I guess we only get a glimpse every now and then. You're right though. The left goes crazy with republican presidents, the right goes crazy with a democratic. Its getting harder and harder to be politically neutral or middle of the road. Option three would be good...Thanks.

Regardless if you have the right or not you have to admit that you would be a lot more comfortable at least knowing other advisers were in the room to witness the conversations.

Meh, I'm sure whatever is discussed is covered under some sort of need-to-know/national security laws, so no, I don't think we have a "right" to know, although it's certainly something I'd love to be privy to.

As for the private one-on-one meetings, what's the issue? Was some formal agreement signed? Until/unless that happens, whatever happens behind closed doors is just verbal agreements, they have no real power. I'll get my panties in a wad when something egregious is put in writing.

Do we deserve to know everything that was said? No. Does Congress? Probably.

Do we deserve to know what was said around these claimed military/defense agreements? Absolutely.
