Damaged leather side bolster
Hi guys,
I've already made a post about this in the aussie section (http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...=248252&page=2) and i think i read another thread about someone else with the same problem as mine. So the problem is that the leather on the edge of the side bolster is starting to peel off, it is progressively getting worse every week. I understand that in time the leather in this location will start to break down, but i've only had the car for 9-10months, which i think is unacceptable. Furthermore, i am quite careful about how i get in and out, but its hard not to rub against them a little. Would like to know how common this issue is? |

every bmw sport seat does this, don't slide into them, be more careful, move the seat back before you get in

I do find it ironic that the '09 135s have the thicker boston leather on the side bolsters. Whereas the '08 135s used the thinner leather for the side bolsters in an effort to create a nice cosmetic contrast. Me thinks the '09 seats will be much more durable.

thickness does not matter, if you drag your ass it'll put little tears in the surface, or wear off the top layer of dyed leather

Hmmm... I have a 2002 330 with leather sports seats, and have NEVER thought about how I get into my car. After 91,000 miles my seat(s) are all perfect. Never heard about having to "sit" differently on leather seats vs: fabric.
Is this truly a 1 series problem? I hope not as I'm considering buying an '09. |

your probably not fat
it's super easy to tell when you shop used cars with sport seats, if the owner was fat, just look at the drivers seat side bolster it affects every make/model, not just the 1 series

In addition to the other suggestions, try not to wear jeans when driving the the car. Jeans are a very coarse fabric plus they (depending on the brand) have brass studs.

my bros 14 year old bmw, although doesnt have sports seats, has not at all started to peel like this. Like wise with another 10 year old bmw... and really, you shouldn't have to move your seat back before you get in and out of a normal road car... |

imported_mega,
I think you're missing the point i'm trying to make. it's not that i do not expect it to happen, it's just that it seems to happen prematurely... i mean, if i had had it for 3years or so then i would expect some wear and tear, but 9 months is surely unacceptable. the fact it has happened so early is a bit worrying as i can see it get worse on a weekly basis. |

BOT: While I do not have the exact same issue as you but my bolster has already started to crack. I even use the second seat memory position to be all the way back and let it do so every time I get in/out of the vehicle. I am taking the car to the dealer Thursday to take care of a supposed worn brake pad issue with 7,000 miles on the car so I will address this issue along with a couple others. I will post what comes of it. |
