Pulling my motor!
Yup, I'm swapping motors, I think I've decided to just pull the motor and trans out as one since my front clip is already off and seems to be easier rather than trying to undo all the trans bolts (in the garage on jack stands)
Just wondering if you guys have any tricks up your sleeve or advice on maybe something you came across I should watch for to make it easier? Thanks! |

Mechanical stuff is gonna be the same as any other RWD:
- Unbolt driveshaft - Unbolt exhaust - Unbolt trans crossmember/engine mounts - Remove shifter - Remove hood and front end From there, it's all about figuring out the wiring, and seeing what gets stuck when you try to pull. That said, comment back with the pick-up points you end up using. My E46's M52tu has designated areas to lift the engine, don't see anything like that on the N54.

*Update*
UPDATE
Considering the little room I have doing this project, I was able to pull the motor up and out leaving front clip and trans in the vehicle. The top bell housing bolts can be done from the top with a ratchet that swivels or flexs at the top. I did take out the fan in front for more room. Entire wire harness is in the car still, just unplug everything. Take off the intake manifold for easier access to A LOT. Now when lifting the motor the flywheel and clutch will get caught on the cowl where the wipers are. I suggest removing the front clip like previously stated by another member. I'm going to remove the front clip to put the new motor in. Waiting on a clutch to arrive. Next update is next week. |
