I was out at an autocross with the 1M over the weekend and gave another instructor in his 991 GT3 fits- just .03 seconds behind until the last run, and I'm on street tires. Still as fun as ever.

That said, GT4 on order, July build. Trying to talk the girlfriend into making the 1M her DD. We'll see- too many cars, not enough garage space...

wow you guys are quite a bit ahead of me!! i bought my car 11 months ago with 34k miles and now i have 62k miles on it! Will probably be at 90k+ by this time next year!

Unleashed from time to time on sweet mountain passes (Alps & Dolomites) + the Autobahn.

And somebody is already 'confiscating' it for future purposes.

I ordered mine in august 2011. Six weeks later I took delivery. It's good to have friends in the car business. Just under 13000 miles to date, lots of mods and very fast. I raced a new M3 the other day and won. My next purchase will be the M4

Walked into the dealer Dec 2012, saw AW 1M sitting on the floor and drove it out a short time later!

Can't see me selling it anytime in foreseeable future, just nothing I would rather drive. Tried out an M4, nice car but lacking a bit of soul, almost too refined for an M car. Will probably just get an M5 as a daily driver and for long trips to replace my oldish A8.

Ok, not to threadjack here but very curious about your candid feedback regarding S2000 vs 1M. I have always been very curious about the S2k and it's obviously becoming increasingly difficult to find an unmolested copy...

Also, back on topic: just under 22k miles. Just about everytime I drive it I just shake my head and laugh at how absurd and ridiculous the car is.

You're right, S2000s are becoming harder and harder to find in original condition. I got lucky and found a 1-owner, completely stock, 2002 model year that was very well cared for with approximately 46k miles. It's funny, the more modified ones I see, the more I like my stock one.

As for a comparison to the 1M, it is using quite a different formula but still reaching for the same goal as the 1M. The biggest difference is in the powertrain: they have nearly polar opposite power curves. The Honda has very little torque down low in the revs but makes all its power up top. Even then, there is no comparison in terms of acceleration, the 1M will always pull harder. It's the classic NA high-revving vs torquey-turbo motor comparo. One major advantage of the Honda's motor is that the power is much more accessible, so hitting the 9k RPM redline can be done on public streets without feeling like you've broken half the state's statutes.

Behind the wheel, the Honda feels lighter, more nimble, and has a fantastic driving and shifter position. The shifter on the Honda is much more mechanical and direct; the 1M has a bit of rubbery-ness to it. I enjoy shifting both equally, but they have very different feels. Getting back in the 1M after driving the Honda makes me feel like i'm sitting too high and the shifter sits too low (I have my seats as low as they can go). On the other hand, the steering on the 1M is much heavier and provides much better feedback than the Honda. Despite being a convertible, the chassis of the Honda definitely feels more rigid yet its suspension is softer and more compliant than the 1M. I personally love the fact that it rolls on 16" wheels as it only helps maintain the compliant ride and also makes for incredibly cheap performance tires. In terms of handling, the 1M feels much more composed and planted in the corners. I think the limits of the Honda may compare with the 1M, but it takes MUCH more effort to get there. The Honda feels on the edge when taken to the limits. This may change with some more time behind the wheel, but I can say for certain that the Honda doesn't inspire confidence the way the 1M does. Couple that with the fact that the Honda has no stability or traction control and you can understand why it has a reputation for snap over-steer and for being an overall widow-maker.

All in all, the 1M is a much faster car in nearly every imaginable way, but both cars are very effective in making you feel engaged and involved in the driving experience. I'm a fan of top-down driving, so I can argue I get something out of the Honda that the 1M cannot provide while also benefiting from the Honda's very affordable running costs for DD purposes.

Here is my best guess of the future of the 1M. Low mileage 1M's will always demand a premium in the used Car - Collector market. The 1M is and always will be a true collector BMW.

My best comparison:
My 2011 1M 6225 miles.
My 1988 All Original E30 M3 71,600 miles.
