Seems pretty cool for those who want performance without the warranty worries.

Of course for those not worried about warranties, there are much more potent options for similar or less money.

Is the $600 for the software upgrade the final price? Or will there be some sort of stupid labor fees thrown in? You know, because its tough work plugging a computer into a car

Also, do you get the fancy Performance badge too?

Personally, I'll stick with this sticker:

N55 and N54.

My guess (but I don't know for sure) is that the Cobb Tune would overwrite the ECU changes done by this kit.

If you get the Stage 2 then you would still get the benefits of the improved hardware upgrades...

The 1M's alleged +35hp gain is good for 4.2sec to 60mph and 12.8 in the quarter. I wouldn't be surprised if its good for more power. When does throwing an extra 20hp and 30lb of torque shave off the acceleration times BMW has published? Then again, I'd wager they know the ins and outs of their engine better than any tuner.

Interesting. I think I'll stick with my Dinan Stage 2 upgrade though.

So... does BMW still make the Performance Power Kit (PPK)? This sounds like these two kits slot in under the "full" PPK. ???

For those afraid of warranty issues they can always trick the dealer by buying this tune and then having another flash tune installed. So then when they go to the dealer, the dealer won't question anything since they won't be able to read the ECU anyways but they will know your car is faster due to the performance tune.

I'm sure that's not including "labor". I'd also expect it to be an easy plug n play type process, but I know a lot of times the car ends up sitting on the computer for quite a while.

Your cobb tune would overwrite the software tune ("Version 1" of the PPK). Obviously, if you did Version 2 you'd still benefit from the additional hardware.

If you don't mind losing (*possibly*) having warranty issues, Dinan, Cobb, JB, etc is defintiely a lot more bang for your buck. I stuck with the BMW PPK route because I wanted to keep my extended warranty.

I agree, this sounds pretty much like what I had installed a few months back, just with the option of software only ("Version 1").

------------------------------------------------------

Overall it's a good tune and the hardware does make a difference. I've been happy with it but it is definitely expensive for the performance gains.

And they would charge you for "labor" for every second the car sits connected to the computer too, even though they are really not doing a whole lot during the process.

For $599 it sounds like a good deal from BMW, add a $100 installation fee and it seems to be ok not great.

Well, I am pretty sure they flag your VIN by saying you have it installed once you install it. Just having a sticker won't have the tune on your VIN.

$599 MSRP - Some dealers may do for less.

Figure labor should also be negotiable.

Thats just the increased top speed limiter (155mph). I think having the Sport or M-Sport package would qualify as well. I could be wrong though, but the Sport/M-Sport packages have the increased limiter too.

Yes apparently you need the oil cooler that comes as part of ths Sport/M Sport packages. Same thing for the Dinan Stage 2 software upgrade.

I believe your right... I have an Msport package and it includes the increased top speed limiter. Also i don't think that the increased top speed limiter is a stand alone option, only way to get it is sport or Msport so that has to be it.

If someone got this software kit and then a service department upgraded the car's software for a recall, would it be overwritten by the factory update? I'm sure it could be, but are there safeguards that help avoid this?
