Stupid codes on stupid car
Getting P2195 and P2197.
Symptoms: Rough idle, CEL, stumble on acceleration occasionally. I was poking around in INPA, and I thought I had a HPFP code in there? Forgot to log it though. So far I've replaced (In the last 4k km's) All injectors All Plugs All Coilpacks In an attempt to deal with misfires caused by my tune. I was resetting various adaptations in INPA (Injector learning, and Lambda? correction) as well as doing a 11->1 reset in my Procede. Idle seemed to clear itself up and it ran a million times nicer. Put it into mode 4 on the stage 1 tune, and the car felt decent. Was driving home about 10 minutes later, and went back to having misfires, and the codes popped up again. Should I add replacing my front o2 sensors to my list of things to do to get the car to run properly? |

Why would you replace things before knowing what the problem is?

Mileage? Intake valves or lambda o2 would be my next guess.

If you do end up deciding that it must be the o2 sensor, you can try cleaning it before buying a new one (they're not exactly cheap). Granted, you can screw it up completely but if you're at the point where you are going to get a new one, you aren't losing anything by trying.
Some say you can try cleaning it in fuel, others say there are special cleaning solvents etc for this, there's a lot of info. |

I'll just throw in my experience with a bad precat o2, OP perhaps this will be of some use. I got the codes p2cab and p2ca7 along with an ses light, since I drive the car under 25 miles a day I just put up with the light and drove for two days as the dealership was extremely crowded and the car felt OK. It wasn't fun, but it was also clear that the car wasn't facing a critical hardware fault, so I could deal with it for just a few days. By day 3 cold start was no good, the car was bogging pretty hard and clearly misfiring, though I never got a misfire code. When it got up to operating temps it was more or less OK, no obvious misfires. I took it in on day 4 and had the lambda o2 swapped under CPO, everything has been fine since then. I asked my SA how much it would have cost out of pocket, and he said "not cheap", I declined to ask further but i'm sure it's a job you'd rather have an indy do for cheaper if you're not under warranty. I should note that even though the car drove OK for the first two days/30 miles, it just didn't feel quite "right". I didn't bother to log since I went out of my way to drive the car soft while the ses was on, but i'm sure AFRs were all over the place. If that's your problem, it's a very quick fix, not a huge deal. It can be frustrating how sensitive our engines are to misfires...

Vanos solenoids can have a pretty significant role in the idle and overall drivability. Easy to clean just like the O2 sensors. Made my X3 run like new!

My 135 started misfiring under full throttle at 44K miles, after checking injectors and coils, it turned out to be gunked up intake valves.
After getting the walnut shell treatment, no more misfires. Oil catch can is being installed today! |
