SunTek-C Quartz

Took car in a few weeks ago for paint correction-C Quartz and full front-mirrors and sills in SunTek. Happy with results.

Yep. If you have a manual trans, you can drop a diff from an automatic in, bolt-on and go from 3.23 to 3.73.

The stupid thing is leaking a bit though, gonna have to drop it again and install new seals and RTV the cover

Yeah, but they look sooo good when they're clean. I used to have a black 1er. Man, was she pretty after a detail.

Yeah, I gave it a quick once-over with a microfiber cloth and it's looking good again. It is worth-while, it feels silky smooth at the moment, and it's these 6-hour details every couple of months that make it possible to have the car looking good after a 20-minute microfibre cloth wipedown in between.

It's clean, but no matter what I do, I just can't get that deep, wet mirror-finish that I have with previous cars. I get the feeling this car had a hard life prior to me buying it... it's got more than its fair share of stone chips and swirls.

It's due for a professional detail. I haven't got a DA Polisher so I've been doing everything by hand - it'd be nice to send it in for a full paint-correction and detail to get it to 'pop' like Matticus91 's Tobias.

Every time I see this photo of his car I get jealous

xQx your car looks great, that said let a reputable detail guy have a go at it and do a ceramic coating= cuts upkeep tremendously. The trick to a black car is regular waxing and keeping it out of rain/sun as much as possible. Yes black sucks but nothing imop beats the look of black on most cars when clean. I personally love dark blue but its almost as bad for upkeep and believe black is the best looking color on the 1.

Wow man thanks for the kind words haha. It looks great when it's clean but trust me 80% of the time it's just nasty levels of dirty lol. Hard to keep a DD clean, especially lately, so much construction on my commute routes. If you look at the most recent pics in my build thread you'll see what I mean

You guys with black cars need to take a pic after you clean/detail it and hang it on the wall somewhere so you can always see it lol. Honestly, I did that with my BSM 1er that I used to own because 5 min after a detail it was dirty again and it was frustrating. But yeah, black is the best!

Get a real pro to go over it or learn how to do it yourself and then just keep it washed and waxed and use a quick detailer like Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer after regular washes and between washing/waxing jobs. That's what I do with my current LMB 1er and it always looks pretty good.

Or, get an unlimited pass for the local car wash...

Yes, yes I know I know... very bad things etc etc.
I'm old-ish(52), my back & hips are in a bad way, and, frankly, I have better things to do with my time then spend hours detailing the car. I still do occasionally, but not to the level you folks do

And, my car is clean.

Lol. I'm starting to adopt a more "realistic" routine myself. I just don't have the means or time to do a serious detailing often enough anymore. Considering getting a foam gun and hose to hook up to a spigot i found on the side of my apartment building's garage. I know we're not technically supposed to use it, but i bet it would take them a while to notice lol

Sounds like a good idea. Just plead your case to the Manager. Then have Apollo give 'em that sweet dog look and they should melt. Make that dog work for his keep. Haha

Quoted for truth.

I detailed mine for a work car show in July. It was gorgeous, but I had to leave 1/2hr in to the show and haven't washed it since. Wanted to last weekend, but my Pops is visiting and he has trouble getting in and out, and apparently washing his hands. Greasy fingerprints all over the passenger door and window, as well as hood and trunk. But I'm still shuttling him about, so waiting until he departs Sunday. Except we're expecting a near-record heat wave this weekend; I may have to wash it after the sun goes down!

DSB seems to love fingerprints. A-pillars and doors are always covered in fingerprints. It's a love/hate relationship with not only the paint but the whole car, too.

I went for an evening ride two days ago. Burned almost half a tank in 60 miles so I was really trying to get rid of cobwebs in the engine... And I came home frustrated. Came to the conclusion that I do not enjoy the car much. I mean, the engine is what really makes me go out and drive it, be it the mountains or city, but that's about it.

P.S.: Why don't we rename this thread to "general 1addicts discussion thread" or something along those lines

Yeah, this heat wave is crazy. The high today where I live is supposed to be 110F. I can't wait for Fall. It could be worse, though. We could be in Texas. Poor people...

Agreed. But we could always start a new thread and call it that. I nominate you Tom to start the new thread.
