Gummy Trunk Release Handle Fix

Pretty sure all the e82,88,90 must suffer from this handle breaking down with heat and age. The rubber exterior cladding just melts. This part (link below) was made EXACTLY like the BMW one I pulled. Soft rubber feel. Pops out with plastic tools. Has a small plug. 5 minute fix.

I'm looking at this wondering what it is…? My trunk doesn't have a cupped handle. It has a button. Either press button and it opens or use the key fob button and press and hold it and trunk opens.

I don't have comfort access.

Interesting. I went out to check on my car's trunk release. Mine is different as I did the Bimmertech back up camera retrofit. So my trunk release assembly includes the back up camera. No issues with the rubber. I've had the setup since buying the car new in 2014. I then checked on the original trunk handle which I left sitting in my trunk for all these years. Even with no exposure to the environment except maybe the heat/cold of being in the trunk, it looks same as new except I'm detecting some tackiness on one edge of the handle with the rubber. From your pics, it's the opposite side. So I'm thinking the rubber used in this part from BMW might be prone to have the rubber break down over time.

Weirdly I just went and checked mine and it's the same. Fully I always just thought it was a button not a cup.
