I originally started this thread, and since have purchased the AFE axleback and installed about a month ago. Really like it. I'd say the volume is a 6 out of 10. Pretty agressive during cold-start. Fairly mild once warmed up at idle. Pretty aggressive when on the throttle. Great, deep tone...sounds a lot like many V8's I've had in the past (Mustangs, Corvettes, etc.), which I like the sound of better than most 6-cylinders.

I have an automatic and there is some drone but it doesn't bother me. With windows down, the sound is great. With windows up, the drone is slightly louder, but not headache-inducing and sounds nice.

Plus AFE seems to be the least expensive by far, and the tips look good.

Good luck!

The retailer I ordered it from was apparently out of stock. Therefore, AFE is drop shipping it directly from their manufacturing facility, but has yet to supply me with a tracking number. They claim that it shipped out on Monday, but we'll see...

I'll update you as soon as I have it on the car.

I bought the Berk Race, and am running that with stock downpipes and stock mids, sounds great, not too loud, minimal drone, no french horn sound. And I snagged it for 270$ plus shipping on the forums here!

Bumping this up...

So if stock exhaust is a 1 (on a scale from 1-10), and the golf tee mod is 2, is the Berk Street really only a 3? I currently am OEM with the golf tee mod, and I'm looking for a decent axle back with a nice throaty sound. This is my daily, and do NOT want something really aggressive, loud, or drone-prone.

From what I'm reading on here, the Berk street is only a nominal improvement over a golf tee mod exhaust. Would the Maddad Whisper get me to a "4" or "5" on the scale?
I'm not planning to replace downpipes or midpipes.

Thanks for any further input.

I'm currently running the Dinan free flowing exhaust. Sounds like it has tuberculosis. So throaty and gurgly. It sounds good when you go WOT and is does not drone when using the factory flapper valve.

I have to say it is the best compromise between a wussy factory exhaust, and something that drones. The only exhaust that sounds better is the one on my SL63.

I have plenty of other high performance, blah blah blah exhausts on my other sports cars and I absolutely hate them for the drone/annoying noise when not romping on it.

So again, Dinan free flowing with the factory flapper enabled hands down.

I have the Berk Street and I can definitely hear it and feel the rumble. It has a nice sound and but not as aggressive when driving normal. But once you go WOT it can get as loud as any other axleback.

Once you get the axleback, you are going to want the mid pipes lol. Later on in the future I will probably buy the N55 midpipe or find a used Maddad or Berk mids.

Has any one tried the Burger Motorsports exhaust? Curious how that compares.

Edit - just realized that is the cp-e unit.

If you're there tomorrow I'd love to pass by the shop and hear it. I've also been considering an axle back.

Ive tried stock, obviously, BMS DP only, DP/Y-pipe/Stock muffler, DP/Y-pipe/Berk race, and DP/Stock res/Berk race and my favorite combination is by far the DP/Y-pipe/Stock muffler. I was really surprised at the difference in sound with the Y-pipe installed. Minimal drone gains, but that can be fixed easily with activation of the exhaust flap. I love it.
