My Calculations on Pricing
So here is my calculation on how much the 135i will cost, based on the predictions that it will have an MSRP of around $35000. I used the base price of a 328i coupe, which is $35,300, and used that along with the options pricing currently available for the 2008 models. I don't forsee options like the premium audio, usb-ipod option, comfort access, and navigation to be any different from the E90 or E92. I also figured that the sport package would be similar to the E92 pricing (which is cheaper than the E90 pricing, as the E92 already has sports suspension included in the 335i without any sport package - same concept with 135i). Also, the premium package is the same for E90 and E92, and the 135i contains most of the same stuff, in addition to the ambient lighting package (which is a standard feature in the E90/E92). No reason why the 135i premium package should be any cheaper.
So I used these figures, and compared it to the pricing of the E90 335i sedan and E92 335i coupe, and I'm seeing a price difference of about $3000-$3600 between a 135i and a 335i sedan, and $4400-5500 between a 135i and a 335i coupe. This is MSRP, and as you add more options, the gap between a 135i and 335i (sedan or coupe) gets narrower. If you get closer to the invoice or ED pricing, the gap becomes even more narrower. For someone doing a european delivery of these cars, you'll see only a $2600 price difference between the 135i and 335i sedan, and $3700 difference between the 135i and 335i coupe. So based on this pricing, and this logic, if you plan on getting lots of options and plan on doing European Delivery or get get below MSRP pricing, the 335i sedan or coupe become more appealing price wise. I guess that all makes sense..... *note - I've only listed the cars in the configuration that I want.. |

Sure it's another pricing post, but that said it is also one of the better ones. That's a good table with some useful information for comparing the 135i and 335i.

Yeah, we'll all see what pricing ends up being probably at the end of November. But isn't guessing the pricing and putting into a spreadsheet and seeing how close it will be a lot of fun? Unless BMW decides to go haywire and charge closer to $36000 or under $34000, I don't see how these prices will be far off * I have the excel file on my work computer, so I can't post a link now, but it isn't really an automated spreadsheet or anything. I just plugged all the numbers into the cells for the E90 and E92, and applied the pricing logic to the 135i. |

The 335i sedan has a base ED invoice of around $33K as you can see in the spreadsheet above. A $1000 difference in ED pricing between a 335i and 135i? That is a bit too funny for me. At that price, sign me up for a fully loaded 335i, which will then probably cost, what, just about $500 more than a 135i?

I'm sorry, but if BMW prices this only $3,000 under the 335 then this car will offically not be worth it, at least for me.
At 43 fully loaded you're into A5, Mbz 350 price ranges....but I digress. |

If my pricing is within $200, will everyone on this frickean board pitch in money so I can afford to add "power seats" to a car that will start at the mid $30K?
Not that I need it, or really want it, but it is funny how the car really doesn't have much going for it as far as weight reduction and cost savings is concerned, yet they decide that power seats should be an option. How about making the sunroof an option and giving us cloth seats? |
