I think that without any engineering from the motorsports division, the M seems a little unwarranted. I support BMW Motorsports also, but I would not attempt to adorn the car so much that it seems like I wish my car was an M model. We all know what the M stands for, but we also must be truthful enough to know that the M in our cars case doesn't stand for anymore than Marketing. I personally refuse to play into that. I replaced the M on my shifter with the BMW OEM Performance Shifter Kit. And if I had the duckets for the steering wheel, that M would be gone too. Then, my 135i would have no relation to anything of BMW Motorsports. I applaud the fact that the Performance pieces actually have thier own "identity" and do not come off as "M" whore upgrades. I would much rather install the M pieces (such as bushings etc.) from the M3 and take satisfaction and show support in that. But the holders DO look nice. Black FTW.
The suspension on the 135i was supposedly developed by the M division, or at least partially. The 135i also has fancier brakes then the M3/5 IMO. I’m not saying the 135i is an M car by any means, but it does have some roots in M.

I don't think having rebranded Brembo brakes makes the car rooted in M. Chevy Cobalts have brembos too. And CLEARLY the suspension was not even sneezed on by the M division. (It's atrocious.)

Don't do it. You might think it sounds cool now but it is something that you will regret for the rest of your life.

I'm waiting to see whether BMW does an upgraded 1 and how they label it. Assuming it corresponds to the equally speculative N54 upgrade, I will be wanting that badge - in shadowline of course.
