Look for the N55 to migrate to every current N54 application. It uses Valvetronic in addition to VANOS and that buys them better fuel economy.

what if this is just some guy who is creating a custom WB?
If so, why would he fit aftermarket brakes with ugly ass calipers? Why would he cover his BMW roundels? Why would the exact same wheels show up on an M5 mule a few days later? If this is a joke it's a sick joke.

Twin sequential turbo + I4 FTMFW. That would get them below 3000lbs and turn this into an epic car.

FWIW, those who think that BMW would neuter a 1er supersport, consider this: the competition has gotten awfully close to BMW of late. Consider the S4, C63, and the upcoming RS4/RS5. BMW also has it's ///M fans crying foul over the X5 and X6 variants. Most of the BMW loyalists cry foul over how portly the cars have become. To a large degree, BMW has lost part of its halo and doesn't quite live up to "The Ultimate Driving Machine" anymore. Perhaps BMW sees all of this and will seek to rectify it with a 1 Supersport

So here is a scanned article about the possible 1M, from the mouth of the New M division Boss, Kay Segler: See article "New M Boss Rocks the Boat"(Below) From the Oct 09 Roundel Mag. If anyone has his contact info I'm sure we can influence/sway his decision.

There is no need to sway his decisions as he does not make the final call; the board does.

We have known for some time (since Willich was boss) that ///M would be working on a 1 series car. This had been put on hold due to the recession and green focus.

BMW has developed green items, the recession is near close so let the party begin again.

If anyone has noticed there is also a 3 series floating around the 'ring with these same wheels.... hmmm.

This 1er is early in testing and we will not hear the final decision for about a year or so; don't expect to see this at a show anytime soon.

I'm glad I found some info on it in the Roundel Mag. If reaffirms the possibility of there being an affordable,(hopefully) entry level M car, since some of us have not been graced with deep pockets. The later it comes out the better since it will give me time to save up for my next Bimmer.

The earliest this will be a 2011 model. Should I wait until then? decision decision. I wish there is date associated with these rumors.

with the launch of the Audi TT RS Audi shows they are really pushing to take over from BMW. The same engine will be introduced in the Audi A3 (RS3) making this a rocket, and BMW has nothing to put against it (yet )
So it makes more then sense BMW is pushing the 1 series.

All I know is that if BMW offered a 1 series with a wider track front and rear and some better suspension tuning, it would be one hell of a car - most likely my future car. The fact that you can only fit a 225-235 wide front tire on a car with 300hp is just pathetic. They made the 1 series overly conservative in its handling (see: understeer) which is why it loses just about every performance comparison test out there.

I love the concept of the 1 series, but the execution leaves much to be desired. If this is the final variant, I feel it will not only dominate the competition, but will finally be the 1 that everyone wanted in the first place.

Not for nothing Roundel reaffirmed nothing- they quoted someone else's information. Dr. Kay has given several interviews on this subject and none of them have been with Roundel.

Agreed. N55 is tailored for smoother acceleration in big cars such as 5 GT, X5, etc...
I hope N54 will get HPFP fixed and get updated to 350hp with new technologies.

Amen!
All the articles point to great improvements with the car with some suspension work and some easy engine tuning..

I dont see anything wrong with adding Valvetronic to existing N54 engine.
Do you have a source?

Just a little intuition. They get a 9% fuel economy improvement with Valvetronic, and with the pressures to improve across the board I suspect they'll take it - after all it's a drop-in solution. They really managed to squeeze some size out of Valvetronic to fit it into what otherwise is a pretty busy cylinder head.

That's the problem for me as well--my E82 lease is up in May 2011--as we who were the early buyers/lessors of the 135 get closer to that date, it is going to take some planning to make the final decision!

If this isn't going to be around until 2012 or 2013, then you have to decide whether to get a Civic for a year or two, lease another car, etc....

Just makes it tough without a better idea of the timing.....

I want to see this thing with a seating arrangement like this. My kids complain that I get all the fun myself.
