Australian TV Ad for the 1 series... video - UPDATED FULL VERSION

I'VE UPDATED THE VIDEO - IT'S NOW FULL LENGTH....

Rumours abound... that BMW Australia will use the Presets song "Are You The 1" for their TV ad promoting the new 1 series coupe...

This is also a certainty given that the website address that went live last week is www.areyouthe1.com.au. So, with that, here's a video I made to see what the Aussie ad might look and sound like...

Wow impressive Cozza! You made that? Geez, some people just have more skills than others (err like me haha). I like it, it is bold and probably suits the target market of the 1 coupe.

Well, I started with the original ad that's airing in the US, edited it to the max, and removed the audio. Then I had to try and cut a 4 minute song down to 45 seconds and make it work with the graphic. I used 4 bars from the start, 4 from the bridge, mixed the vocals from the first verse with the vocals from the last verse, and finally cut in the ending, along with the final graphic showing the Aussie website address. So it took a while!!

I didn't like the song initially, but the more I heard it the more it grew on me. Could be worse - they could have gone with John Farnham's "One is the lonliest number"!!!

You know what would be a good youtube viral video for BMW? You start with John Farhnam's song, with some loser looking guy with daggy all by himself looking sad and getting rejected by girls when he approaches them, then the music stops suddenly, and words "Not if you have a 1 series coupe/convertible", and in comes your version of the ad. Then at the end you show the guy grinning, still with his daggy clothes, leaning against his new 135i with a girl on each arms. Hahaha.

Rubbish ad. Does nothing to tell a potential customer what the car really is about and what it can do. Cutaways of the chassis really do nothing for me and I am sure the average audience.

Interesting response. If you read the initial post Alex, you'll see that I was simply asking what people thought of the music that BMW Australia will most likely use for the Australian ad. This is not the ad, it's one that I've quickly put together using some footage I found. Also, if you know BMW, you'd know that they don't simply produce one ad for a car - they produce several, some are teasers such as the above, some are simply branding, and some are used to show the finer details and performance of the car.

Well that is good in that case; it suprised me that BMW would use such a lairy ad to promote this vehicle. I didnt read your initial post properly. As a potential buyer I am interested in what this features this car has that will be beneficial to me. Personally I intend this to be a daily driver, including longer trips. But still provide me entertainment along the way.

I dont watch much TV so am largely unaware of BMW televised ads. Have seen the latest string of 3 series ads though.

I can be nice for as long as i want, been given the from the "wife" looks like i will be driving the e46 coupe for a while. Apparently an $80k car is too much for a 25 year old. Says she who has handbags and shoes that cost more that $1k a pop!

Anyway, i will still be hanging around this forum at you guys with your cars. Might wait till next year.

I liked the ad. Young hip, sweet graphics and music. Would grab attention on TV. Not meant to give facts just emotion. IMHO the 2002 might be meaningful to the enthusiasts but I think that's not necessarily the majority of buyers.
I'd put in the 0-100 in 5.3!
Great movie editing work though. I think a home grown ad with Phillip Island footage of the performance AW would work wonders.

Just keep working at her mate. Once she softens a bit, just go ahead and do it and deal with the consequences later. The 1er is worth it:wink:

I did that with the Audi actually. Man she got pissed when she realised I actually did order it! 1 week later, no issue

No such problem this time with the 135 which to be speaks volumes about the car.

swarm, I've used the technique heaps of times. Always works, you just have to weather the initial storm then they just forget about it when they see that you've made a wise purchase.

Always soften them up first by taking constantly about the item, and allowing them to purchase anything they want (within reason) before and after your purchase. It's called accumulating brownie points.
