You definitely can but the hard part is finding a 07-08, sports chrono package, PASM, sports steering, and manual. There are plenty of non-pasm and non-chronos around.

At this point I think I will wait for an 09 with options above to drop around low 40s and then pick up a TPC turbo kit for extra power.

Did you say this? M3 and 135 are over weight. M6 is too, how does that one handle on the track? Any one who sais M3 is not over weight or that it doesn't feel like its over weight or what ever spin they put on it, is selling an M3!!!

Most new cars today are over weight. This is bad for performance and mpg.

I thought forums are for enthusiasts, not enthusiast posers
Um...this thread is about the spy shots of the new M car.
You're discussing car weight and magazine articles. I recall you suggesting to me to stick to the thread topic, or take create a new thread. You want to take your own advice now?

You seem to be a smug little know-it-not.
If you're such the master enthusiast, then why did you get that over weight 135i DCT? That's a rhetorical comment btw.

There are plenty of options for people like you who always harp on the weight issue. It's called a good set of tools, and effort to remove as much weight as you think is proper.

Cars sold in the US market have to have an ever increasing level of safety and emissions standards, which directly translates to more weight that has to be there. You can go ahead and remove the airbags, cat-cons, rear seat belt assemblies, and any other item you think makes your car too heavy, it's your choice.

The magazine issue has been discussed ad nauseam.
I've counted ads versus articles in various auto mags, and the "only there to sell cars" argument doesn't hold water.
When BMW's are reviewed there are plenty of articles that point out the bad and the good. BMW tends to build cars that driving enthusiasts like to drive, and since car mags are written by and for enthusiasts then it stands to reason why BMW's are often written about in a positive light.
Of course, you're entitled to you own beliefs sans proof.

I'm not bashing the M1 or the 135. I waited couple of years and decided to get serious, and at the same time M1 news started to trickle in and DCT option. At this point I lost 2 years of my life. I was ready to wait another 2 years for the M1. This would have made 4 yrs lost. So I decided to get 135 w/DCT knowing very well the imperfections and the risks. After 4 weeks I am very happy with my decision. Now the hard part is, do I keep it stock or mod and/or get the M1 when it comes out?

Your throwing to many details and insults so I'll just give it back to the OT. Agree with some of your comments.

Chill, This was actually a compliment. I now have 2nd thoughts about quad functionality. Perhaps I need to figure out how use smilies. Take it easy on me , I just started Text messaging a few months ago. I'm 20 years younger now and trying to catch up.

BTW the coupe ha a 400lb weight advantage over me.
This is going to be tough. I have so many vert friends that if I told them what I really think, I wouldn't have any more friends. So I resort to humor...

Trolling to keep an eye on the M1. Not angry towards M1, just hoping it will be a true M1. 135 is getting me by very well so 2 years of fun for now while we wait. Perhaps you are right for some here.

Lots of decisions to be made up to the M1 test drive reports, that is from enthusiasts and not some magazine.

You just don't get it...winning isn't the point. How much fun you have is. And as enthusiasts our job is to have fun with our cars. Weight doesn't make or break how fun a car can be.

friction = ma...

more weight = more friction

Given the SAME tire sizes, yes more weight sux. But seeing lighter cars usually end up with smaller wheels, what's the complain here?

Are you trying to write that friction=mass?

What oversimplification are you getting at here?

I think he's referring to Newton's 2nd Law (Force=Mass x Acceleration). Friction is a type of force, but the equation that takes friction into account ends up being Net Force = ma

. He is trying to agree with you, that more weight is OK.

1973 Porsche Carrera RS 2.7 Carbon Fiber (240hp & 1,890 lbs) .

Now this is lightweight. Quads would make it more heavy and more out of balance. I believe stock is 6into1?

Grant, Why are you checking this thread? Will you be trading in the 2.7 for an M1?

Hi - not trading the 911 - might use the 1M for a daily driver. My exhaust has 3 into 1 headers on each bank. Both banks feed into a larger banana shaped muffler behind the rear bumper (dual in and dual out).

Didn't think you would sell. I'm in the same boat. current 135 or future M1 will be my daily/street fighter. Daily is one reason why I chose the DCT. Still deciding on my classic. Too many choices, unfortunately will come down to price. Targa Newfoundland is also driving my decision.

A true dual and no cats, very nice.

Would you get 6MT or 7DCT?

Yeah, I don't think any (many) cars had cats in 73 - much more common in 74. I would definitely get a manual gearbox. Targa Newfoundland sounds fun!
