I'd say some already moved from 1M to the A45 AMG

I can understand if regular 1er to A45 AMG, but isn't 1M >> A45? So it's a downgrade?

All good picked it up at 10 pm last night. Half way home at rockhampton as we speak.
1st service is booked for friday.
Hope they give some sort of re-map when they do so, as it wouldnt scare a JB4 or equiv 135 with the 5500 rpm im allowed.

Booked for the mt cotton hillclimb on the 14th as its first go around

F20/22 1/2 series to M2? I don't think many would be making that move... Especially M135i or M235i... Maybe the lower variants.

I think a lot more e series 135/1M owners are the ones jumping into the M2.

M2 is great but I never understand the idea of moving from a M135/M235 to M2... Or 435 to M4... Unless it's a lease but even then the similarities of having a same generation car is weird...

No idea why you would go from a m135 to a m235 but a 435 to a m4 is a different story.

Why and how? A person wanted a m4 but bought a 435? Regretted it and eventually buy a m4?

I'm in Aus so I'll use Aus prices... 435 is like 105k m4 is 155k... So what you lose in selling 435 after a year or 2 plus buying a new m4 is going to cost 70k extra... Doesn't make sense to me financially, unless you're leasing.

Bang for your buck, I agree.

A 2nd hand 135 or 235 with a 5 -7 k of mods ( chip / pipe / wheels / suspension) is incredible value imo.

A lot of M2's will go to owners, that will never actually use the dynamic benefits a M2 or M4 offers.

This can't be more true!! The large majority of M2 owners won't be able to utilise the full potential of the car, especially the difference between 135/235 and the M2.

Bragging rights are good though. Plus the better exterior

This is all a bit pointless, a lot of 135/235 owners won't be able to utilise the full potential of the car over a 220i ... and so the saga goes on.
A generalisation at best.

M4 is better than a 435i, M2 is better than m235i ... That's why people move up. It's not all about the money.
Years back when I had the 135, the 1M wasn't around. Later on, one drive in the 1M and I bought the car on the spot.
To many it'd seem like essentially the same car, to me it was the perfect car.
For some it may not be easy to justify the money to go from a m235i to an M2, but that's each individual's personal finances.

135's and 235s are a lot closer in performance to a M2 than a 220 is to a 235.
That small gap can also be totally closed (in straight line performance) with very little expenditure. Same cant be said for a 220

The difference as you say has a lot to do with owner pleasure and is definitely wallet related. The nuances of M cars sophisticated chassis's / drivetrains are often discussed but rarely explored.
IMO 135s and 235s are unbelievable performance / prestige value. Particularely if purchased used

Of course they're better cars, there's no arguing there. Initially my comment is... I don't understand the jump from 435i to M4 not because of jumping to a better car.. It's why do one buy a 435 to begin with? M135i or M235i can be a little bit more understandable, because M2 were only rumours... But even then I don't get the jump financially. Only because you're paying so much more for something so similar...

This is not aimed at anyone is particular, similar logic can be applied to other manufacturers... When I was in the VW community a few people jumped from same gen gti to R... Or same gen a250 to A45 or S3 to Rs3

Personally it's something that's very illogical to me

And there's your answer. The rest is just what each individual can afford. If I could, I'd be jumping from a GT3 to a GT3 RS, but alas I'm not. First world problems are so unfair.

Would it be worth jumping from a Cayman S to a GTS? GT4 is out of the question. That's my first world problem I have ATM.

I don't really agree, generally speaking when you're at gt3/gt3rs you already have too much money... So "financially" it wouldn't make as much difference...

However, the cars we're discussing like m235i to m2 or s3 to rs3 or 435 to m4 generally, people in this price range, have money but not throw them away money... Maybe I'm wrong... Maybe it's only me as well who thinks it's weird making a jump like that...

My thinking is more that people make those jumps is either they rushed into the decision of buying the wrong car to begin with... When 435 came out, M4 was already rumoured to be announced a year down the line... So is it a mistake or impatient a person bought the 435 and regretted it... Therefore, switching to M4? Or something else.

There are a lot of people playing the "car game", I'm one of them, I lose money switching cars all the time, but never jumping within the same manufacturer, same series and same class. Eg. I'd find it ok to switch from m235i to a s3 sedan or rs3... Because in my heart and mind it's a completely different car. Lol I'm ranting

Personally I definitely don't think it's worth it jumping from Cayman S to gts.

The difference is so small... Different stock exhaust, slightly tuned, and a bit exclusive interior bits... Plus a few things standard... But what you'll lose selling the Cayman s and getting a gts would cost a lot more than just the difference for both cars new.

I tend to agree with you, in fact its almost irrational, but aren't we all kinda irrational when it comes to cars
